PSG are reportedly planning to pay an astounding £175 million just to land Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland.
The French powerhouses’ season was destroyed this past week as Bayern Munich eliminated them from the Champions League.
PSG’s elimination has raised new concerns and suspicions about the entire initiative, raising the issue of whether the Qatari takeover can currently be deemed successful.
The most prolific goal scorer in Europe seems to have been identified as the solution to their issues as the Champions League title continues to elude them.
With 28 goals in the Premier League alone, Haaland is having an exceptional season while wearing a City jersey.
Neymar and Lionel Messi, who are 31 and 35, respectively, have been tipped to leave the club this summer, freeing up space on the team’s already-exorbitant wage sheet for the Norwegian.
Around the two players, who are regarded as the best on the continent right now, the club may create a new narrative.
Given that Christophe Galtier has failed to lead PSG to the club’s first Champions League victory and appears to be facing the same destiny as so many PSG managers in recent years, Zinedine Zidane has also been mentioned as a potential replacement.
There have been rumors about Zidane taking over at Parc des Princes for a while, but the former France star has stayed mum on whether or not he is interested in the position. Zidane is a native of Marseille, a fierce rival of PSG.
It remains to be seen if Haaland will find it appealing, but it is instructive that in recent weeks there have been rumblings that the Norwegian may not stay in the north west of England for very long.
The agent for Haaland, Rafaela Pimenta, highlighted how Spanish clubs were frequently a player’s fantasy during a conference last month.
The principal agent for Haaland since Mino Raiola’s passing last year, a Brazilian attorney, also admitted that she enjoys charting athletes’ progress.
“In my agency we try to make a plan. We have to make a plan,’ Pimenta spoke at the London Business of Football summit for the Financial Times.
“We must have a purpose. We might not succeed, but if we don’t know where we’re going, we won’t arrive.
“When we have a player, we make plans. Even if the player is 15 years old. We are planning out his career trajectory.”
“When I started in this business, if I would say to a player “I’ll bring you to England” the first thing they would say would be “what did I do wrong? Why don’t you like me?”
“But now, if I ask a player ‘what is your goal?’ he will say the Premier League. He doesn’t say City, Chelsea or Arsenal but the Premier League.”
On Saturday, Haaland scored the only goal as City defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 to maintain a five-point gap between City and first placed Arsenal.
Erling Haaland: Why Does PSG Want Him?
After failing to advance further in the UEFA Champions League yet again, PSG is eager to sign a star attacker to accompany Mbappe.
Given how productive the 22-year-old has been lately, Haaland is seen as the best choice.
If PSG wants to win the Champions League for the first time, a clear strategy is required, and the new strategy appears to be finding Mbappe’s ideal attacking partner.
The French club’s Qatari-backed vision currently appears to be in the mud following their most recent European debacle.
In spite of the fact that both Lionel Messi and Neymar appear to have had their moments, it is evident that Mbappe needs a forward option to complement his style of play, and Haaland may be the ideal choice given how productive the City star is and what he may bring to PSG.
A front three of Mbappe, the Norwegian, and Messi may revolutionize football if the French giants manage to recruit him this summer.
Nevertheless, there is a potential that PSG could once again run into issues that have prevented the team from winning Europe’s top prize.
