PSG have reacted to Kylian Mbappe Instagram rant by taking down the promotional video festuring the 24-year-old.
Unlike other muffled skirmishes in the relationship between the France international and PSG, Kylian Mbappe went public and tore into PSG for a brazen trespass on his individual image rights.
The Ligue 1 champions obviously irked the club’s poster boy when they aimed a promotional video at the fans to market the club and ask the fans to renew their tickets for 2023/2024 season.
In the video, Kylian Mbappe was featured lauding the club’s facilities, management, the environment and the philosophy.
The video is said to have been culled from one of the players’ interview with the club’s commercial arm during 2021/22 marketing campaign.
After the video was published, Mbappe “disagreed” with the club’s decision to use the interview in the video without his consent.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Mbappe blasted PSG in a viral Instagram rant.
According to him, he was not contacted before the video was published and he holds exclusive right to his individual image as a player.
The prolific youngster closed his remark with a humorous pun in French saying, “PSG is a big family but it is Paris Saint Germain not Kylian Saint Germain.”
The 2022 World Cup golden boot winner went candid on his feelings and impression that his individual image rights has been violated by the club.
PSG react to Mbappe’s Instagram post, takes down video
Hours after Kylian Mbappe’s outrage on social media, PSG were forced to concede as they took down the video to pacify Kylian Mbappe.
According to RMC Sports, the club’s president was furious with the publication of the video by the club’s commercial wing.
He was reportedly unaware of the move to publish the video without the consent of Kylian Mbappe and is unhappy on the social media stunt the incident has generated.
The report adds Nassr Al-Khelaifi is ready to take action on all parties who were involved in the publication of the video to forestall such unneccesary blunders next time.
Despite Nassr Al-Khelaifi’s effort to arrest the seeming breach of trust between the club and Mbappe, it is apparent Kylian Mbappe is not in the best of terms with the club.
Mbappe has been PSG’s poster boy with a lot of influence at the club. He was linked to a move to Real Madrid last summer before PSG conceded a lot to tie him down with one of the craziest contract offers in football history.
Mbappe’s PSG stint has not been rosy. The clash with Neymar, vice-captaincy issues with Kimpembe, and faceoff with Christophe Galtier’s attacking tactics have all fueled rumors he may likely join Real Madrid in 2024 as a free agent.
He still wields enormous influence at the club which explains why he was preferred in the promotional video over the two other best players in the squad – Neymar and Lionel Messi.
