PSG delivered a sensational 4-0 victory over Olympic Marseille in their League1 clash on Sunday, September 24th.
Marseille initially posed a threat with Vitinha creating opportunities, but PSG grew stronger as the game progressed, causing their opponents to crumble in a shameful defeat.
One goal each from Achraf Hakimi and Randal Kolo Muani, and two goals from Goncalo Ramos secured a comfortable victory for PSG.
Following the match, PSG’s young star Zaïre-Emery led the squad in a joyous celebration, reflecting his confidence and great delight.
At just 17 years old, Zaïre-Emery became the youngest PSG player to provide a Ligue 1 assist since Opta started analyzing data in 2006, assisting Marco Asensio’s goal in a 3-1 win over Lens on August 23rd.
Meanwhile, PSG’s 4-0 win has propelled them into the third position in Ligue 1, trailing early season leaders Brest by two points.
The match in details
After suffering a 3-2 loss to Nice at home on 15 September, Luis Enrique’s team bounced back with an impressive performance.
The turning point came when Hakimi, the Moroccan full-back, scored directly from a free-kick.
And not only did Hakimi find the back of the net, but he also provided an assist for Muani, who scored his first goal since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for a whopping £64.2m, with an additional £12.2m in add-ons.
Substitute Ramos further solidified their lead by scoring the third and fourth goals after replacing the injured France International star Kylian Mbappe.
As a result of this defeat, Marseille finds themselves in seventh place in the Ligue 1 table, trailing PSG by two points.
PSG boss Enrique allays fears over Mbappe’s injury
Despite losing their star striker Kylian Mbappe to a suspected ankle injury in the first half, the dominant French champions emerged victorious against their most-hated rivals, Marseille.
PSG’s easy 4-0 win in Ligue 1 saw Mbappe attempt to continue playing after an early challenge, but he was eventually substituted before half-time.
However, PSG’s manager, Luis Enrique, reassured fans after the match that the substitution was merely a precautionary measure, alleviating concerns about Mbappe’s injury.
He said: “I don’t know exactly what happened but I think it was a knock. He tried to change the strapping on it and continue but the pain wouldn’t go away.
“I don’t think it is anything serious and I suppose he will be back soon but it is better not to take risks when a player is not 100 percent.”
What’s next for PSG?
There is a possibility that Mbappe may not be available for selection when the French champions face Newcastle in an away fixture of the Champions League on 4 October.
