The reigning Premier League champions Liverpool football club will visit the Emirate Stadium today, 8:15 PM (UK time) to take on Arsenal football club.
This is the third time Liverpool are facing Arsenal in the 2019-2020 season. In their first meeting, Liverpool thrashed them 3-1 (Premier League match) while in their second meeting, Liverpool won via penalties (EFL Cup round of 16).
Why the match is so important for both Arsenal and Liverpool
Though Liverpool are already crowned champions of the league, they still have a lot to fight for. They are racing towards breaking the 100 points in a season record currently held by Manchester City. They are currently on 93 points in 35 matches, they need just 7 points to break the record. Hence, they would not want to lose any of their remaining three games which would earn them a total of 9 points if they win them all.
If that happens, Liverpool will not only break Manchester City‘s 100 points record but will set a new one which will be 102 points.
As for Arsenal, they need the match as much as Liverpool do. They are currently aiming to qualify for at least Europa League next season. They are sitting on the 9th spot with just 50 points in 35 matches. This means that they need all the points in their remaining three Premier League games to brighten their chance of making it to Europa.
The current form of Arsenal
Arsenal football club started the season in a very bad shape but suddenly picked up when Mikel Arteta took over from Unai Emery. But since the Premier League returned from the three months coronavirus break, the club has been very inconsistent.
For instance, they won four out of their last 6 games. Out of the 6 games, they have drawn one and lost their last game against Tottenham Hotspur 2-1. This means that the last time Arsenal won a match was against Wolves on July 4.
More so, in the last 6 games, they have conceded 4 goals and scored 12 goals. This means that though their defence can be a bit organised, they are prone to one or two game-changing mistakes.
Arsenal possible starting lineup:
Martinez; Sokratis, Luiz, Holding; Bellerin, Ceballos, Xhaka, Tierney; Saka, Lacazette, Aubameyang
The current form of Liverpool football Club
There is no doubt that this is the best season for Liverpool in their history in terms of Premier League football. They used this season to break the jinx of not winning the Premier League and they are ready to break any available records still left in the league.
They tested their second defeat of the season in the hands of second-placed Manchester City when the Premier League returned from the coronavirus break. Since then, they have remained unbeaten.
Liverpool last game was against Burnley and the match ended 1-1 bringing their total draws since the Premier League returned to 2. Out of their last 6 games, they were victorious in 3, suffered defeat in one and drew two.
Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Keita, Fabinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Salah, Firmino, Mane
