Premier League CEO Richard Masters has revealed why the Premier League have yet to bring Manchester City to justice following financial charges.

Manchester City were slammed with 155 charges since February 2023 for flouting Premier League Financial and Fair Play rules.

It has been over a year and nothing has been done about the charges with some experts beginning to question the credibility of the Premier League on fair and just application of the Premier League FFP rules.

Meanwhile, Everton and Nottingham Forest who were charged recently in December 2023 were hit with point deductions.

Following punishments meted out to Nottingham Forest and Everton, there have been growing concerns and questions on why Manchester City’s charges have yet to be heard.

Addressing the controversies, Premier League CEO, Richard Masters, speaking at a European Leagues press conference in London on Friday, April 26, said the Premier League are still processing Man City’s case with a hearing set to take place soon in the “near future.”

“We can’t comment on the case, the date is set. The case will resolve itself at some point in the near future.”

On why the Premier League have punished Everton and Nottingham Forest while City’s case is still pending, Masters argued City’s case was not the same as Nottingham Forest and Everton’s.

“They are very different charges. If any club, whether they are the current champions or otherwise, had been found in breach of the spending rules for year ’23, they would be in exactly the same position as Everton or Nottingham Forest,” he said.

“The volume and character of the charges laid before Man City, which I cannot talk about at all, are being heard in a completely different environment.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City, who are chasing a historic four straight Premier League title victories on the bounce, have maintained they are innocent of the charges.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola blasted Premier League rivals for ganging up against City in the wake of the charges.

They have employed a £10,000-per-hour lawyer Lord Pannick KC to defend the club in the wake of the allegations.
