Why Did Phil Foden Leave Three Lions’s Euro 2024 Camp To Return To England?

Reports indicate that Phil Foden left England’s Euro 2024 camp to return home for the birth of his child.

His partner, Rebecca Cooke, is apparently set to give birth to their third baby and Foden has headed home to be with his family.

He is expected to be back in England’s Euro 2024 camp at least on or before Sunday, June 30, 2024, when Gareth Southgate’s side play in the round of 16.

The 24-year-old started all three of the Three Lions group stage matches, playing all 90 minutes in their opening game against Serbia, while he was substituted in their last two group matches in the 69th and 89th minute respectively.

An FA Spokesperson tagged the reason for Phil Foden’s exit from the national team as a “pressing family matter”, saying: “Phil Foden has temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for a pressing family matter.”

In April 2024, Foden and his girlfriend Rebecca Cooke revealed they were expecting their third child together.

Phil Foden, 23, and his 22-year-old childhood sweetheart celebrated the exciting news with an elegant baby shower and they also posted pictures of the party online.

Foden and partner, Cooke share a son Ronnie, five, and daughter True, 1, who was born in July 2021.

Phil Foden had a stellar campaign with Manchester City in the 2023/24 season, helping them clinch a record fourth consecutive league title.

The Englishman also ended the season with the Premier League Player of the Season award, beating others like Cole Palmer and teammate Erling Haaland to the individual honor.

Phil Foden With England In Euro 2024

Foden is yet to delineate his brilliance at club level with England at Euro 2024, despite the Three Lions qualifying for the knockout stage unbeaten.

They defeated Serbia 1-0 in their opening game of the tournament, before playing out a 1-1 and 0-0 draw with Denmark and Slovenia respectively.

Phil Foden’s position in the team has come under the spotlight, with many calling for him to either be utilized in the number 10 role or be dropped for a more natural left winger.
