Manchester City manager Pep Guadiola has messaged Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after a second consecutive win over Chelsea in FA Cup.
The Blues suffered a shock 4-0 defeat to Manchester City to further pile up the pressure on Graham Potter.
The defeat means Chelsea have now suffered a consecutive defeat in four days to Manchester City, losing by an outrageous margin to the Premier League champions.
Earlier in the week, Manchester City traveled to Stamford Bridge to take on the Blues in the Premier League. While Chelsea played their hearts out, City earned a flattering 1-0 win to keep a close chase on Premier League table toppers Arsenal.
Four days later, the two Premier League giants clashed again in FA Cup, and blue side of Manchester City still maintained dominance and nailed a perfect victory over the Blues.
Chelsea were a shadow of themselves throughout the game, and failed to fire a single shot on target throughout the game. Manchester City dominated proceedings cruised to an easy win to proceed to the 4th round of the FA Cup.
Algeria international Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring for City with a poweful freekick outside the box. Few minutes after Kai Havertz gave away a cheap penalty aftet handling the ball inside the box.
Argentina international and World Cup winner Julian Alvarez converted it with ease to double the lead for the hosts before Phil Foden’s thunderbolt strike made it 3-0.
After the first half, Manchester City were already leading by three unreplied goals. Nothing changed in the second half. Ryad Mahrez bagged his brace, scoring from set piece again to make it 4-0 for the home side.
The players were booed off the pitch by the fans after a lacklustre and disappointing first half display, and expected more from the players in the second half.
The visitors still played second fiddle to City, and manage just one shot on target with no clear cut chances.
After the game, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola sent a shock message to Chelsea owner Todd Boehly about Graham Potter.
Speaking in a post-match press conference, Pep Guardiola directly asked Todd Boehly to give Graham Potter more time to bring his plans and tactics to bear at the club.
‘I would say to Todd Boehly, give him time,’ Guardiola said. ‘I know in big clubs, results are important but I’d say give him time.
‘The second half is what he is. What he’s done at Brighton is outstanding, but…we need time in the first season.’
Guardiola, however added, when he was at Barcelona, he did not to wait for two seasons because Lionel Messi was there
”I had (Lionel) Messi in Barcelona my first season so I didn’t need two seasons because Messi was there.”
Chelsea are now winless in their last 13 games and have suffered 10 defeats in 13 games.
Graham Potter is currently under intense pressure to turn things around, with some impatient Blues’ fan calling for him to be shown the exit door.
While Chelsea’s poor result so far is a cause for a great concern and inexcusable, the Blues are in the throes of injury crisis with most first-team players ruled out of the team due to injury.
