Despite Manchester City’s imperious form in the 2022-2023 season, Pep Guardiola is yet to win a Premier League Manager of the Month award with a month left to go.
The team tutored by Pep Guardiola, Manchester City have been remarkable since the turn of the year and they have been unbeaten in the English Premier League since the 5th of February 2023.
The Citizens last defeat in the English top-flight league came against Tottenham Hotspur and it was a narrow victory for Spurs at their 1 billion pound ground.
However, in spite of that impeccable form which has seen them rise to the top spot on the English Premier League table, Pep Guardiola is still yet to win a Premier League Manager of the Month award this season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta whose side have so been largely impressive for most parts of the season has won the award the most this campaign winning on four different occasions.
The Spaniard took home the award in August before doing it in back to back fashion winning the November/December award and the one for January.
Arteta came out tops over Pep Guardiola and other managers to win the Manager of The Month award for March.
Pep Guardiola has defeated his former assistant on all four occasions this campaign but despite his side’s brilliance, it has still not been able to rub off on him.
Erik Ten Hag sits second behind the Arsenal head coach on the number of Premier League Manager of the Month awards won with two to his name.
Ten Hag, 53, has changed the fortunes of Manchester United this campaign and also led them to their first silverware in close to six years in February.
Although the form of the Old Trafford club appears to have dropped in recent weeks, they sit in the top four one point ahead of Liverpool with a game outstanding.
The first meeting between Erik Ten Hag and Pep Guardiola in the Premier League ended in an annihilation for the Dutchman as his side were pummeled 6-3 by Manchester City.
The Dutchman however came out victorious 2-1 in the 2nd leg of the Premier League game with another opportunity to see both in the technical area once again being in June during the FA Cup final.
Both Erik Ten Hag and Mikel Arteta are former disciples of Pep Guardiola, the former was the Spaniard’s assistant during his time at Bayern Munich while the latter was his assistant during his time at Manchester City.
Eddie Howe of Newcastle United and Unai Emery of Aston Villa have both won it once apiece with Howe winning it in October and Emery winning the one for April.
Pep Guardiola and Eddie Howe shared the spoils in their first meeting this season while Guardiola came out victorious in the second leg.
For Unai Emery, he has been really impressive since he took over the helm of affairs at the West Midland club in November 2022.
In the only occasion that he has met Guardiola this season, Manchester City were victorious 3-1 against Aston Villa.
He was not yet appointed in September when Aston Villa took on City at the Villa Park earlier this season.
Anyway, It’s left to be seen if the proverb “he who laughs last laughs best” would apply to him if Manchester City win the Premier League title and he wins the Manager of The Season Award.
In conclusion, the awards for April were also given out with several names who have been remarkable in the Premier League in the previous month being rewarded.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland took home the Player of the Month award for April after his record-breaking month where he smashed the record of the most goals scored in a single top-flight campaign in England.
Unai Emery won the Manager of the Month award for April after guiding Aston Villa to five victories out of seven.
Arsenal’s Aaron Ramdale was also awarded the Save of the Month award for his save against Liverpool in April.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Nunes was awarded the Premier League Goal of the Month award for April for his astonishing rocket against Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola was nowhere to be found once again in the awards list but he takes his Manchester City side to the Goodison Park on Sunday to play Everton as they look to consolidate on the lead at the summit of the Premier League table.
