The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is already looking forward to seeing the club’s outgoing striker, Sergio Aguero plays against his team in the Premier League.
Sergio Aguero will exit Manchester City at the end of the 2020-2021 season as the club has confirmed that the contract of the 32-year-old Argentine striker would not be extended when it expires in June 2021.
Aguero came to Manchester City on July 28, 2011, from Atletico Madrid for a transfer fee worth €40 million. He was part of the team that made Manchester City one of the fiercest clubs in the Premier League.
His effort helped the club to win four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, 5 EFL Cup, and three Community Shield. He is also the all-time highest goalscorer of the club with 257 goals in 385 games in all competitions.
Despite being a striker, Sergio Aguero used to be an active team player at the club. Such a characteristic helped him to provide 73 assists so far at the Manchester side.
Though his ability to score fantastic goals is not in doubt, his biggest issue at Manchester City has been the frequent recurrence of his injuries which was a huge contributor to why his contract at the club was not extended.
His injury issue always makes it difficult for him to pick up his form as timely as expected. This trait has forced him to make just 9 Premier League appearances this season. He has managed to make 15 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City this season in which he scored 3 goals.
Despite the poor stats, since Manchester City announced that the Argentine international will be released this summer some top clubs in the Premier League have been linked to him.
Pep Guardiola who might feature him in the Premier League game against Leeds United later today, April 10, at 12:30, said he would support the striker wherever he chooses to go after his time at Manchester City.
“We wish the best for him, all of us. Find the best for Sergio for the last years in his career, for sure”, Pep Guardiola said.
“We’ll be delighted with the decision he takes, the best for him and his family and his career.
“My preference is his preference. His preference is my preference. The best for him is the best for us…
“Sergio is a lovely person with specific qualities and skills. I understand him, I know him, and I understand he needs time to get in the best condition.
“Everything can happen. Everything can change quickly in a positive way or not a positive way. Everyone must be ready and hopefully, Sergio can be ready quick.”
PEP 💬 We wish, all of us, to find the best for the last years of his [Aguero's] career, we will be delighted with the decision he takes, for his family, for his career.
