Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed the state of his contract situation at the Premier League club.
His contract expires at the end of next summer, and there are plans to engage the chairman and the owner of the club with possible renewal talks.
According to reports, the Chairman of the club Khaldoon al-Mubarak and owner of the club Sheikh Mansour are keen on renewing Pep Guardiola’s contract.
However, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has refused to disclose whether there will be contract extension or not.
Guardiola has used metaphors to veiled up the situation of his contract at Manchester City. When asked, he maintained that the contract situation is “under control” and “perfect.”
Guardiola’s deal expires next summer, and the 51-year-old has repeatedly dismissed media questions about the club’s position on renewal talks.
He has admitted that there is no decision to that effect and when there will be one, it will be made together with the club.
“The decision will be made together with the club the moment it has to be made,” Pep Guardiola said.
Guardiola, however, gave an inkling that he may likely stay at the club and will be anticipating a contract extension because he is happy to stay at the club.
“I said many times, I had the feeling that both the club and myself are happy to be together”, the Spaniard added.
Guardiola is due to return to Spain for a short break when the Premier League season stops after this weekend’s fixtures for the World Cup, but it does appear to be the perfect time to get his short-term future settled.
After a brief return to training at the start of next month, Guardiola is due to take the players who are not on World Cup duty in Qatar to Abu Dhabi for a short training camp.
That will offer the chance to speak directly with City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak and owner Sheikh Mansour.
Guardiola is in his seventh season at City, during which time he has won four Premier League titles and five domestic cups.
The Champions League remains the major piece of silverware to elude him and will be hoping to add the highly-coveted European club trophy to the team’s trophy shelf this season.
He is reportedly comfortable at the club and has forged a good relationship with chief executive Ferran Soriano and sporting director Txiki Begiristain, and they have jointly built the team into a European powerhouse.
When asked how he is faring at the club, Giardiola’s answer was simple, ” having fun,” he said.
He also admitted that he equally had stressful moments in his seven seasons with the club.
Manchester City is currently second on the Premier League table and set to defend the title they won last season, with Arsenal as potent contender.
They eliminated Chelsea from the EFL Cup after a 2-0 win and will square up against Liverpool in the next round.
Liverpool is the only team that have defeated Manchester City this season in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola will be going on a revenge mission against the Jurgen Klopp-led team when domestic league football returns after the 2022 World Cup.
