Paul Pogba has revealed that he wants to retire from football following alleged extortion and threats from a group of gang and his brother, Mathias.

Recall we reported that Paul Pogba, 30, filed a complaint with the Italian Police in July 2022 and stated that he was a target of 13m euro (£11.1m) blackmail plot.

Mathias Pogba, 33, was arrested in 2022 but was later released in December after he denied all the allegations against him.

While speaking to Al Jazeera about the impact of the incident had on him, Pogba said: “When there is money you have to be careful.”

The former Manchester United midfielder added that: “Money changes people. It can break up a family. It can create a war.”

Paul Pogba also stated that: “Sometimes I was just by myself thinking, I don’t want to have money anymore. I just don’t want to play anymore.”

“I just want to be with normal people, so they will love me for me – not for the fame, not for the money,” Paul Pogba continued.

“Sometimes it’s tough. This life, you have to go through it. It will only make me stronger.”

We also reported that French prosecutors opened a judicial investigation last September, just two months after the 2018 World Cup winner filed a compliant.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau also revealed that the said investigation would determine the allegations that includes “blackmail by an armed gang, kidnapping and membership of a criminal conspiracy”.

Mathias’ lawyer Yassine Bouzrou stated that his client was innocent following that allegations by his brother Paul Pogba.

Paul Pogba was released by Manchester United at the end of the season and joined Juventus. Pogba returned to Juventus in the summer transfer window after leaving Manchester United for free last month.

In August 2016, Paul Pogba was acquired by Manchester United in a deal that set a British transfer record.

Ultimately, he returned to United for £89 million during the 2016 summer transfer window. Afterward, he decided not to sign a new contract and left the team in the summer of 2022.

Who is Mathias Pogba?

Mathias Fassou Pogba, a professional football player from Guinea, was most recently a forward for Championnat National 2 club Belfort. He was born on August 19, 1990.

Before following his more well-known brother Paul to the UK, where he played for Wrexham and Crewe Alexandra, Mathias, who began his career as a youngster at Celta Vigo, briefly played for Quimper in France.

He spent four years in the English levels before moving to Pescara of the Italian Serie B in 2014, but he quickly came back to England with Crawley Town.

He briefly played for Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Partick Thistle in Scotland before joining Tours in September 2018. He represented Manchego and Lorca in Spain in the 2019–20 season. Since his debut in 2013, Pogba has also appeared in five games for Guinea’s national team.
