Mathias Pogba, the older brother of Paul Pogba, was detained by police in France after turning himself in. After three other people were detained by French police, he becomes the fourth to be taken into custody.
Mathias is involved in a family dispute With his brother, Paul Pogba, whom he claimed practices witchcraft. Pogba angrily refuted these allegations and then named his brother as a member of a group that attempted to blackmail him.
The former Manchester United midfielder later changed his story and said that he had gone to a witch doctor, but not to bewitch his France national teammate Kylian Mbappe of PSG.
Authorities have taken over the issue, according to ‘Get French football news’, and this is viewed as the first significant move toward resolving the matter that has threatened to tarnish Pogba’s reputation ahead of a significant football tournament in November (FIFA World Cup in Qatar).
Mbappe openly announced that he was standing with the former Manchester United star after hearing both sides out. This gave the former Manchester United star a much-needed boost.
According to court sources, Paul Pogba paid a gang of blackmailers led by his brother Mathias Pogba £86,460 (€100,000) in the spring.
In comments made public on social media, Mathias Pogba refuted the claims. His attorney reaffirmed his denial of any role in the alleged extortion recently.
This denial was made in a statement released by Mathias Pogba’s attorney, Richard Arbib, after Mathias posted a strange video online on August 27 in four different languages, promising “major discoveries” concerning his younger brother.
“Taking into account how the affair has evolved and the huge media attention surrounding it, Mathias Pogba strongly insists he knows nothing about any extortion attempt against his brother, Paul Pogba,” read the lawyer’s statement.
“It is clear that the difficulties the Pogba family are experiencing are the result of outside threats which the justice authorities, who are already involved, will evaluate. Mathias Pogba, who wishes above all to calm the situation with his brother, will from now on only speak with the investigating magistrates, should it be necessary.”
It was revealed last week that two investigating magistrates had been chosen to oversee the investigation. The anti-gang and central crime units of the French police are working together on the inquiry.
Aside from the ongoing family feud, Paul Pogba’s chances of representing France at the World Cup in Qatar later this year are in jeopardy due to a knee injury. This month, the midfielder underwent surgery that was deemed “successful.”
