After signing for the side based in Orlando in 2022, Facundo Torres went on to score nine (9) goals in thirty-three (33) appearances last season.

He also scored the first and only goal for Orlando City against New York Red Bulls as they began their 2023 season with a victorious start.

The English club reported to be interested in Torres months ago

There has been several speculations around the Uruguayan on moving away from Orlando City FC with Arsenal reported to be in for the Uruguayan a few months ago.

Torres is just over a year into his four-year deal with The Lions but he has now come to agreement with the side for a long-term contract extension, raising his valuation even higher.

Based on an information from MLS insider, Tom Bogert, it would now take a Major League Soccer record fee for an outgoing player to see Torres leave should a club from another league come enquiring about his services.

The 22-year-old has already been playing with the national team of Uruguay and he indeed has great years ahead of him.

Facundo Torres was given his senior debut by Uruguay legend Diego Forlan back in August 2020, but almost in an instant he became a regular name in the first eleven of the side.

He joined Orlando City when?

Orlando City signed him at the beginning of 2022 and he’s flourished in Major League Soccer ever since.

Not only did Torres perform excellently through his first MLS season, he also scored four goals during their Major League Soccer Open Cup triumph.

Two (2) out of those four (4) goals came in the final and Torres was given the man of the match award as his brace assisted Orlando in defeating Sacramento Republic 3-0 in the final.

The Uruguayan left Peñarol in Uruguay after winning the Uruguayan top-flight league title and he was in the team of the season twice before joining Orlando City in the MLS.

Torres is one of the popular names in the league with Argentine baller Thiago Almada, who was almost among the players who won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.

Many expect a massive move in the future for the Atlanta United attacking midfielder who scored a brace in the first game of the 2023 MLS season for Atlanta United against San Jose Earthquakes.

Almada alongside Torres could break and set a new record for a sale to another club outside Major League Soccer.

The record is presently being held by Paraguayan international, Miguel Almiron, who signed for Newcastle United back in 2019.

The Toon paid an impressive £21.75m to land the Paraguayan winger, who’s became a hit under Eddie Howe this campaign and recently he has been compensated with a fresh contract.

Torres is expected to extend his contract till 2027, but the contractual agreement would contain an agreement between the player and Orlando City on when he can leave.

Although there is no release clause in the deal, it is said that he would be given permission to leave the side if a bid in excess of $30 million is tabled.
