Nigerian Football Stars With 100 Or More Club Goals


Nigerian football stars have been hitting the 100-goal mark in their respective football careers with Victor Osimhen being the latest.

The Napoli Talisman joined the list of Nigerian stars that have hit the 100-goal mark for their various clubs after scoring the first goal in the Serie A champions 2-0 win over Sassuolo on Sunday, 27th August, 2023.

Osimhen spent time at RSC Charleroi and Lille after he made his debut for Wolfsburg in 2017 and he went on to join Napoli in 2020.

Since then, the Nigerian football star has grown to be one of the hottest strikers in all of Europe scoring 62 goals for the Serie A side in just 103 games.

Osimhen played a vital role last season as Napoli clinched the Serie A title – their first Scudetto in three decades.

While the Lagos-born striker hit the 100-goal landmark, it is noteworthy that he is not the only Nigerian to do so neither is he the first.

Rashidi Yekini

First on our list is the Nigerian legend and former African Player of the Year, Yekini – who scored 483 goals in 673 appearances before retiring in 2005.

At the international level, Yekini scored 37 goals for Nigeria in 62 appearances, and he is the national record goal scorer.

Cyriel Dessers

Dessers enjoyed a successful 2021/22 season on at Feyenoord and the one-cap Nigerian international scored 20 goals across all competitions that season.

He also finished as Europa Conference League top scorer with 10 goals from 12 matches guiding Feyenoord to the final where they lost to Roma.

Nigerian star Dessers who currently plays for Rangers reached a landmark of 100 goals in his entire club career on May 8, 2022 and he is currently one of the top guns on our list with 113 club career goals.

Odion Ighalo

Ighalo is one of the most prolific Nigerian striker. He has scored 219 goals in his club career playing for 12 different clubs.

The former 2019 AFCON Golden Boot winner has 469 appearances with a total of 31,431 minutes and he is still playing in Saudi Pro League.

Asisat Oshoala

Oshoala is currently one of Nigerian hottest female strikers and has scored 134 club goals which has made her one of the best in the world.

The five-time Africa Women’s Footballer of the Year has been deadly in front of goal since she joined Barcelona women in 2019.

Obafemi Martins

Nigerian striker Martins before he retired in 2021, bagged a total of 183 goals in 488 club appearances.

Martins enjoyed wonderful spells in the Serie A, English Premier League, Bundesliga, Russian League, La Liga, MLS, and the Chinese Super League.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni

The Nigerian is ranked amongst the best strikers in the Premier League where he scored 113 goals in one of the toughest leagues in the world.

Yaks, as he was fondly called, scored 102 goals after leaving the Premier League, taking his total goals tally to 215 goals.

Jonathan Akpoborie

Akpoborie, 58, is a Bundesliga legend who scored 161 club goals in 372 games, mostly in Germany.

While playing in the league, he scored 38 goals for Stuttgarter Kickers, 32 goals for VfB Stuttgart, 21 goals for VfL Wolfsburg with 28 and 21 goals for FC Carl Zeiss Jena and FC Hansa Rostock respectively.

Osaze Odemwingie

Odemwingie mostly played as a right winger but he managed to score 133 goals in his club career.

The Nigerian football star had a fairly successful time at The Hawthorns before further spells at Cardiff City, Stoke City, Bristol City, and Rotherham.

Ikechukwu Uche

The 2013 AFCON winner bagged 121 club goals before his retirement with all the goals scored in Spain.

Victor Ikpeba

The prince of Monaco as he is fondly called bagged about 114 goals from 367 club appearances.

He also won the 1997 CAF African Footballer of the Year and is one of the most decorated African players.

John Utaka

Utaka who won the 2008 FA Cup bagged a total of 114 goals from 510 appearances and he enjoyed spells in Ligue 1, Premier League and Egyptian League.

Perpetua Nkwocha

The Nigerian star was prolific in front of goal, though some of her records are unavailable, but she scored 32 goals for Swedish team, Sunnana SK.

Reports by FIFA also states that she she scored 80 international goals – a remarkable average of 0.8 goals a game.

Mercy Akide

Another prolific attacker on our list is Akide. She was the first African Woman Footballer of the Year in 2000 and miles ahead of her peers.

Her records just like her compatriots are a bit sketchy. The 47-year-old is believed to have scored over 80 goals during her career.
