The father of Arsenal goalie Aaron Ramsdale has lashed out at Jamie Carragher, due to the Englishman’s comment on his son.
Carragher said during his pre-match analysis that he was “laughing” at Ramsdale for his reaction during the North London derby.
Aaron Ramsdale has seemingly lost his place in goal to on-loan goalkeeper David Raya, but he has not sulked over losing the No 1 spot.
He was seen showing his support to Raya during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.
The camera panned on him at a point in the game following an outstanding save from David Raya to deny Brendan Johnson from scoring in the 38th minute.
Ramsdale was seen applauding David Raya from the bench and he also showed a good disposition.
Speaking after the encounter involving Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, Carragher said:
“I thought it was like the Oscars, you know when someone loses the Oscar and they start clapping and smiling for the other person.
“I was laughing when I saw that. He’s absolutely devastated with that really.”
Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal
Aaron Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United on August 20, 2021, for a fee of €28 million.
He kept 14 clean sheets in 38 Premier League appearances last term, finishing joint second on the clean sheet log alongside Allison Becker and Nick Pope with 3 clean sheets behind David De Gea (17).
Following the comments made by pundit Jamie Carragher, Nick Ramsdale replied to a tweet from Sky Sports on Sunday evening and said:
“You are a Disgrace!! Show some class!! My lad has”.
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has in the past stated that his decision to alter his goalkeeping department was down to how his side wanted to play in that game.
Arteta expressed that he made some bold calls to drop some players on the bench and apparently Ramsdale is the most noticeable player dropped to the bench in recent weeks.
Speaking in a presser, Mikel Arteta said: “It’s trying to play the way we want to play on the day. I made some calls and left some players on the bench.”
However, in the last three matches across all competitions – Premier League and Champions League, David Raya has started in goal for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta prefers Raya to Ramsdale?
Raya has supposedly displaced Aaron Ramsdale, as Arteta reportedly prefers him in goal ahead of the Englishman.
Mikel Arteta reportedly prefers the Spaniard as he is more confident on the ball, less prone to errors and he also has excellent shot-stopping abilities.
David Raya joined Arsenal on loan from Brentford for a fee of €3.34 million, and the deal includes an option to outrightly sign the 25-year-old for a fee of £27 million.
Raya has amassed 2 clean sheets in 3 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions, having made his debut for the club on September 17, 2023, in a 1-0 away win for Arsenal against Everton.
