Neymar Jr has confirmed his decision on PSG future ahead of next season following calls by PSG ultras for him to leave the club.
In a quote shared by Fabrizio Romano from @CaseTVOfficial, Neymar said he will stay at PSG next season since he still has a contract with the club whether the fans want him to stay or not.
“I hope it is at PSG next season. I have a contract. No one has informed me of anything”, he said.
“Even if there isn’t much love between the fans and the player. I will be there at PSG with love or without love.”
In May, PSG ultras trouped into the streets in angry scenes and headed straight to Neymar’s residence, protesting and asking him to leave the club.
Responding to the demonstrations, Neymar raised eyebrows when he liked a social media post, calling PSG a small club without history.
Uncertainties over his PSG future began to mount following the faceoff between him, the fans, and PSG.
French outlet, LeParisien reported the protest by the fans have taken a huge toll on Neymar’s relationship with PSG hierarchy with the Brazilian ready to leave the club this summer.
While PSG condemn the protests by the fans, French media reported tensions are still simmering between Neymar and the club with the Brazilian striker ready to push for a move to the Premier League.
Amid the lingering fracas, Neymar was linked to three Premier League clubs – Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United. Some reports said the Brazil international was actively pushing for an exit from Parc des Princes.
However, the 31-year-old seems to have reversed his stand on his PSG future, confirming he will stay at the club next season whether he is loved by PSG fans or not.
PSG ultras have not only targeted Neymar Jr but had also launched tirades on their former player and footie icon, Lionel Messi.
Before Lionel Messi’s PSG exit, PSG ultras called Messi hurled invectives at Leo asking him to leave the club. During matches, they booed Leo for not living up to expectation after his overbloated wage offer at the club.
It was thought Neymar will join Leo out of PSG following the boos and rejection by PSG fans but the talented footballer has chosen to continue irrespective of the fans’ position.
After a season-long spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury, Neymar is back to training with PSG squad and will be ready for the next challenge. He is on a renewed four-year contract with PSG which will expire after next season in 2025.
Despite his niggling injury problems, Neymar has attracted interests from top clubs in Europe. With Lionel Messi’s exit and Kylian Mbappe’s uncertain future, PSG will hope to keep Neymar as the club continue their chase for their first European crown.
Neymar has 117 goals and 77 assists in 178 appearances for PSG in all competitions.
