Lionel Messi Unfollows PSG On Instagram After His Exit

Messi, 36, exited Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent and has unfollowed the French side on Instagram prior to his official announcement as an Inter Miami player.

The World Cup winner joined PSG last summer after leaving Barcelona but endured a very disappointing ampaign with the French giants.

The former Barcelona star failed to help them win a Champions League trophy and was booed by fans on several occasions.

Lionel Messi, however, refused to renew his contract with PSG and decided to join David Beckham’s MLS franchise, Inter Miami after turning down a lucrative offer from Al-Hilal.

This move by Messi even made PSG lose about 800,000 followers on their official Instagram account.

The Argentine is set to be unveiled as their marquee signing on Sunday, July 16 at a special event at the club’s DRV PNK Stadium.

Also rumour has it that estranged partner of Gerard Pique, Shakira and Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy would be performing at Messi’s unveiling.

Well, before his official presentation, Lionel Messi took to his Instagram to show his lack of affection for the Ligue 1 Champions.

He unfollowed the club which he joined two years ago on Instagram where he has about 478 million followers.

Lionel Messi only follows four clubs: Barcelona, a club that gave him the chance to build a successful career; Chelsea and Manchester City, two clubs he admires and has been linked with in the past; and Newell’s Old Boy, his boyhood club in Argentina.

One cannot blame Messi for showing lack of affection for PSG as he was unfairly blamed for the club’s failure to win the Champions League.

Messi was frequently booed by his own fans despite contributing to 67 goals in his 75 matches for PSG including 13 goals in 14 matches in the Champions League.

The Barcelona legend was also suspended by PSG for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia and Messi accepted the suspension but revealed that there was no session scheduled prior to the time of his trip.

Messi’s transfer to Inter Miami is expected to boost the popularity and quality of MLS, and also immediately impact Inter Miami’s social media handles.

Lionel Messi is likely to make his debut in August 10 against Cruz Azul in the League’s Cup.

Lionel Messi At MLS

Messi, who will be unveiled by MLS Side Inter Miami this weekend, is on the list of the top five highest paid athletes in American Sports.

Lionel Messi just like in 2021 when he shocked the world with a move to PSG has done the same now but to MLS side Inter Miami.

Messi’s decision to join Major League Soccer could make a host of big stars consider a move to the league this summer.

The former Barcelona attacker’s future was in the air, with the likes of his former club, FC Barcelona, and Saudi side Al-Hilal wanting to sign the World Cup winner.

However, Lionel Messi opted to join David Beckham’s US team in a city where he already owns a property amid lucrative offers, especially in Saudi Arabia.

Lionel Messi, 36, leaves Europe for the first time in his successful career, where he won a combined 43 trophies during his 17 years at Camp Nou and his two seasons at PSG.
