Newcastle United have issued a statement to condemn racist attacks directed at two of their players Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock after the Premier League match against Arsenal.

A club statement by the Magpies condemned the attack while vowing to fetch out the perpetrators and bring them to book.

The statement alleges Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock were attacked on social media with racial slurs after the controversial Premier League win over the Gunners at St James Park.

It is believed the tensions that rocked the game must have contributed to the online spat on the Newcastle United duo by erring fans.

Taking to X (formerly, Twitter) Newcastle United wrote;

“Newcastle United strongly condemns racist abuse sent to Bruno Guimarães and Joe Willock via social media following yesterday’s victory over Arsenal.

”Our message is clear. There is no room for racism in football or society.”

A full statement available on Newcastle United website revealed the club will work with the two players, relevant bodies and social media platforms to bring the culprits to book.

“We are providing support to Bruno and Joe and will work with relevant authorities and social media platforms to identify those responsible so that they can be held to account,” Magpies’ club statement adds.

Newcastle United saw off Arsenal in a strongly-contested clash at St James Park to end the Gunners’ unbeaten start to the season.

The game was marred with on-field and off-field controversies from first half. Mikel Arteta remonstrated with frustration on the technical area after Bruno Guimaraes narrowly escaped a red career with his elbow-challenge on Jorginho.

Contention and controversies peaked in the second half when Anthony Gordon netted a controversial winner. The goal was checked for three VAR evidence in the build-up.

First, it appeared the ball had gone out of play before Joe Willock played it in on the far side. Also, Joelington appeared to have fouled Gabriel in the buildup and then Anthony was checked for offside.

Newcastle United were cleared of all the evidence in the buildup and the goal was allowed to stand by Stuart Attwell but the decision has been greeted with a barrage of reactions.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta blasted the decision to allow the goal as ”disgraceful.”

Arsenal issued a statement backing Arteta and calling out PGMOL to do the needful by minimizing incessant officiating and VAR blunders as fans “deserves better.”

Man United legend Phil Neville said the VAR decision on the goal was ‘correct’ since it was not possible to conclude the ball was out of play following a lengthy review on the pitchside monitor.
