Arsenal missed out on a golden chance of making the Champions League by losing the last two games. Newcastle punched Arsenal out of the Champions League top 4th position with a thriller 2 – 0 victory today and Arsenal also lost 3 – 1 to Tottenham last week, making it difficult for the gunner to qualify for Champions League.
Arsenal has its best players on the field but they couldn’t do anything about it. Most of the match was played in Arsenal’s half, and Newcastle punished them mentally and physically.
Arsenal’s best players this season are
- Bukayo Saka
- Aaron Ramsdale
- Eddie Nketiah
This means that the Gunners will end the season in the 5th position, they will have to settle for the Europa League next season.
Mikel Arteta and his team only needed a win today and a win on the last day of this premier league season to punch their ticket to next season’s Champions League tournament.
“Newcastle deserved to win the match and were much better than us. We had nothing in the game. They were much better in every department and we were poor with the ball,” he told Sky Sports. “A lot of things happened during the game, like substitutions for injuries, but it’s not an excuse because they were much better than us.
“It’s true that we could not cope with the game that we had to play here. We tried to change some things but it didn’t make it better. We had moments where we looked better but then the execution was so poor and the goals we gave away were extremely poor.”
