Napoli have finally reached an agreement with Celta Vigo to acquire the service of their midfielder Gabri Veiga.
Gabri Veiga is set to depart from La Liga club Celta Vigo and join the Italian Giant Napoli this summer.
Napoli have agreed to pay around £36 million, including add-ons, for the 21-year-old midfielder, despite his contract having a €40 million release clause.
According to GdS (via Football Italia), Veiga has agreed terms with the Italian side on a five-year deal, which will see him receive €1.8m after tax per annum.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Gabri Veiga, who has been linked with Liverpool, is close to finalizing a move to Napoli in the forthcoming days.
Romano has inscribed the transfer with his trademark phrase ‘here we go’, stating that the player will undergo his medicals once the official transfer documents are ready.
Romano tweeted: “Gabri Veiga to Napoli, here we go! Verbal agreement reached — €36m deal add-ons included to Celta Vigo for Spanish talented midfielder.”
“€30m fixed fee plus €6m add-ons package. Documents to be prepared and then time for medical tests. Top signing for Serie A.”
The personal terms had already been agreed upon verbally before Napoli made an improved bid and both clubs are eager to finalize the deal before the next round of league fixtures.
The highly skilled Spain International midfielder has been the subject of speculation regarding potential transfers to several prominent clubs in recent months.
Earlier in the transfer window, several reports suggested that Newcastle were on the verge of reaching an agreement for Veiga. However, despite these claims, no deal ultimately materialized.
Newcastle, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool have all been credited with showing interest in the renowned midfielder too.
Liverpool reportedly made an inquiry about Gabri Veiga, expressing a strong interest in the player.
The Reds were connected to numerous players as Jurgen Klopp sought to strengthen his squad after the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
However, similar to how the Blues outperformed them in acquiring Caicedo and Lavia, Napoli have emerged as the champ in the race to sign the talented midfielder.
Veiga had an impressive performance last season with Celta.
The 21-year-old concluded the 2022-23 season with an impressive record of 11 goals with 4 assists in 36 La Liga matches, which is quite remarkable considering his young age.
Additionally, he was recognized for his outstanding performance by receiving the Player of the Month award in February 2023.
