Chelsea fear Reece James will be out for months after the right back suffered another injury. It was revealed that the English international had damaged his hamstring.

Reece James is currently waiting to learn the extent of the problem from the club medicals. The skipper’s absence will be a blow to Mauricio Pochettino.

Reece James has been sidelined 11 times since the beginning of the 2021–22 season, which includes five hamstring problems.

Reece James missed the last FIFA World Cup with a knee problem, and as soon as he returned to action, the injury persisted.

Since Pochettino’s arrival, three major injuries have occurred: first, Wesley Fofana; second, France forward Christopher Nkunku; and now, Reece James.

Chelsea new signing from Olympic Lyon Malo Gusto is expected to replace Reece James in the next few matches. In addition, Trevoh Chalobah suffered a significant injury and will miss a couple of matches.

It was revealed that he sustained a minor hamstring problem in the preseason against Fulham.

Chalobah was absent from the Premier League opener against Liverpool on August 13, 2023. So far this summer, different European clubs had been considering signing the defender.

Meanwhile, Chelsea received the biggest transfer blow of the season after Michael Olise signed a long-term contract with Crystal Palace until 2027, despite Chelsea triggering his £35 million release clause.

Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish convinced Olise to stay on August 16, 2023. Olise’s new contract shocked Eagles manager Roy Hodgson, who found out about the deal after he stepped off the pitch.

However, the player is gradually recovering from an injury that will rule him out until September.

After Crystal Palace lost Wilfried Zaha to Galatasaray after the Ivorian failed to sign a new contract, the Eagles are already facing the difficulty of keeping Cheick Doucoure from Liverpool, who are currently in need of a defensive midfielder.

After losing out on Olise, Chelsea are thinking of signing Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson, and they held initial talks with the Forest side.

The possibility of including a player to sign Johnson has been discussed between the two teams. Nottingham Forest value Johnson at £45 million.

The Wales attacker is also getting attention from Tottenham and West Ham; he was the most important player in the Nottingham Forest squad due to his participation in helping them avoid relegation by scoring eight goals.

If the player joins Chelsea, he will compete with Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke, and Mykhailo Mudryk for the starting position this season. Pochettino wants squad depth after losing Nkunku to a four-month injury.

Chelsea have spent heavily in the transfer window with the acquisition of Moises Caicedo from Brighton in a World record deal of £115 million.

The London club is also planning on announcing Romeo Lavia after the Belgian passes his medicals.
