Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah still brawls over the failure of the Premier League club to defeat the Spanish La Liga giants, Real Madrid in the final of the 2021-2022 Champions League campaign. The 29-year-old right-winger took to social media on Thursday, June 2, 2022, to express how much he wanted to win the title.
Recall that on May 28, 2022, Mohamed Salah led Liverpool to Paris to face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League. Liverpool outplayed the Spanish team in terms of shots on target and ball possession but the Spanish team won the game courtesy of Vinicius Junior’s 59th-minute goal.
The victory came less than six days after Liverpool lost the Premier League title to Manchester City by just a point on the last day of the league campaign.
Aside from the pain of losing the Champions League title to Real Madrid, the same team that defeated Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final, the defeat in the 2022 edition of the campaign was a big slap in Mohamed Salah’s face.
Recall that before the final, Salah took to his verified Twitter page to declare that Liverpool and Real Madrid have scores to settle over his team’s defeat in the 2018 edition of the tournament.
In 2018, Sergio Ramos, a former Real Madrid defender who now plays for Paris Saint Germain, injured Mohamed Salah which forced coach Jurgen Klopp to substitute him midway. In Salah’s absence, Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 to lift the 2018 Champions League trophy.
Hence, Salah who has been in an unstoppable form in his club career thought he could use the 2022 edition of the tournament to revenge against the Spanish club. Unfortunately, it ended in another unforgettable defeat.
Five days after the tournament, Salah took to social media to write: “I cannot express in words how much we wanted to bring that trophy back to Liverpool but in the end, we couldn’t.
“I cannot thank the fans enough for your support.
“It has been a very long season but a part of me wishes the next one starts again tomorrow.”

How did Mohamed Salah perform in the 2021-2022 season
The 2021-2022 season has been an interesting year for Mohamed Salah but would like to forget many aspects of the season especially the fact that he failed to help his country, Egypt to win AFCON in February 2022, and also failed to help his country qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Also, at Liverpool, Salah has a couple of instances why he might not call the 2021-2022 season one of his favorite seasons. Recall that he could not help Liverpool to win the Champions League and the Premier League titles despite how close they were to winning them.
However, Mohamed Salah was able to help Liverpool to win the 2021-2022 EFL Cup and FA Cup. He also finished the season as a joint top scorer in the Premier League, won playmaker of the season, won the FWA Footballer of the Year award, and was also nominated for the PFA player of the year.
In the 2021-2022 season, Salah scored a total of 31 goals and provided 16 assists in 51 games in all competitions. His contract with Liverpool will expire on June 30, 2023, and is yet to seal a new deal with the Premier League giants.
