Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta recorded his first defeat this season against London neighbors West Ham United in EFL Cup.
The Gunners stumbled fo a 3-1 defeat to the Hammers at London Stadium to crash out of EFL Cup. Ben White scored an own goal, heading the ball into his own net to give West Ham the lead.
Few minutes after the break, Mohammed Kudus doubled the lead for the Hammers after he latched on a cross-field pass to fire it pass Aaron Ramsdale into the net.
Jarrod Bowen sealed the win for the Hammers at the hour mark to make it 3-0. Arsenal responded late in stoppage-time with a consolation goal from Martin Oddegard to make the scoreline respectable.
The game ended with West Ham United bundling out the Premier League title hopefuls to progress to round 8 of the tournament.
Speaking in post match press conference after Arsenal’s loss, Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment, blamed himself and took responsibility for the defeat.
“I’m very disappointed. I’m responsible for that,” he said.
“We’re out of the Cup, we wanted to play a very different game and compete.
“The game took a direction because of the first goal but we have to see much more from the team and earn the right to win.
“I’m disappointed with myself. We wanted to play in a different way and we weren’t able to do that. Every time we lose the pain is there.
Arsenal will take on Newcastle United in a crunch Premier League tie on Saturday and will be hoping to recover from the loss and maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League this term.
