Netherlands attacker Memphis Depay is set to leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season after the player failed to cement his position as a regular member of the first-team squad.
It was revealed that Depay will depart this summer despite agreeing to stay at the Atletico Madrid for an extra year.
The former Barcelona midfielder was the latest player to be dropped from Atletico Madrid as the club continued their rebuild ahead of next season to compete for silverware.
Barcelona are set to retain the 50% sell-on clause on the player. However, they won’t receive any profit as the player is set to leave as a free agent.
The Dutch midfielder joined Atletico Madrid on January 2023 for around £3 million. During the 2022–23 season, the midfielder made nine appearances and scored four goals.
In the 2023–24 season, the attacker scored nine goals in 31 appearances. Despite playing exceptionally well, injuries were a detrimental factor to his success at the club.
Depay is not the only player who will be leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of the season. Mario Hermoso, Stefan Savic, and Gabriel Paulista are all expected to leave the club during the transfer window.
