Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino took a hit at Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after winning the bidding war for Moises Caicedo over Liverpool.
Ahead of Chelsea’s encounter against Luton Town on August 25, 2023, Mauricio Pochettino said, “The future can change things.”
“Life can change. I saw Klopp say, I am not going to be in this business when we should pay 100 million. They offered 100 million, and he said, “Oh, I made a mistake.”
Klopp once claimed he would leave his job if Liverpool signed a player for over £100 million after Manchester United signed Paul Pogba in the 2016–17 season.
However, the German manager backtracked on his previous statement after Liverpool offered a club record £110 million to Brighton for Moises Caicedo.
Caicedo insisted he wanted to join Chelsea and waited for Todd Boehly to offer £115 million to Brighton.
The Ecaudorian made his debut against West Ham. However, it did not go as planned. The midfielder gave away a penalty to extend West Ham’s lead to 3-1.
Following Caicedo’s decision to join Chelsea, Liverpool have yet to spend the 100 million on any of their targets, but their offer for the former Brighton midfielder shows they are likely to do that in the future.
The Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, also talked about his stance on Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku.
It was revealed by the manager that he is under an order not to pick Romelu Lukaku until the club finds a solution to his transfer.
Juventus offered just £35 million for the Belgian, AS Roma are only interested in getting Romelu Lukaku on a loan deal, Inter Milan could not afford his wages, and the striker is not interested in moving to the Saudi Arabia Pro League.
They are now open to letting him leave on loan, provided it includes an obligation to sign the player permanently.
The Argentine manager, Mauricio Pochettino, admitted he has not spoken to the former Inter Milan striker since he took charge of Chelsea.
Lukaku is one of the expensive transfer mistakes Chelsea has made. However, he may be reinstated into the team if Chelsea fail to get another striker before the end of the transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino has only two top strikers, Nicholas Jackson and Broja, this season. He wants to be able to compete for silverware.
Chelsea have only scored two goals in the 2023–24 season, none coming from the club’s strikers.
Mauricio Pochettino is expecting more signings, with Boehly working behind the scenes to get the best options in the transfer window.
