The manager of Paris Saint Germain, Mauricio Pochettino has stressed that he and the club’s talisman, Kylian Mbappe would remain at PSG beyond this summer transfer window contrary to speculations.
Note that the current contract between Kylian Mbappe and PSG will expire on June 30, 2022. Since last summer, the French club has been trying to extend Mbappe’s contract for at least two more seasons but Mbappe has been frustrating the club’s effort.
Kylian Mbappe‘s dream is to be a Real Madrid player and has worked so hard to make the Spanish La Liga giants take note of him. Unfortunately for PSG, Real Madrid are desperately trying to get Mbappe’s signature.
Due to the interest Real Madrid has shown in Mbappe, especially last summer in which they made three rejected offers to PSG for the services of the Frenchman, Mbappe has reciprocated Madrid’s gesture by refusing to sign PSG’s mouthwatering contract extension offers.
In recent months, reports have been speculating that Mbappe has signed a pre-contract deal with Real Madrid which means that the 23-year-old French striker could join the Spanish giants on a free transfer this summer.
On the other hand, there have been reports claiming that Mauricio Pochettino was on the verge of joining Manchester United before the Premier League club announced the appointment of Ajax’s coach Erik ten Hag.
Also, due to the failure of PSG to progress beyond the round of 16 stage of the 2021-2022 UEFA Champions League campaign, there have been speculations that PSG want to sack Pochettino.
However, ahead of PSG French Ligue 1 game against Strasburg scheduled to kick off at 20:00 on Friday, April 29, 2022, coach Pochettino said there is no plan yet for his exit and the exit of Mbappe.
“There haven’t been any concrete talks, beyond what is normal in terms of our plans with what we have been doing so far,” Pochettino said. “We have a natural relationship, we communicate regarding different topics.
“Of course, they change depending on the circumstances at the time but the relationship and the communication are good. We keep working hard, not just bearing in mind the present, but also with the responsibility in this job which is to think about the future, so that is what we are doing.
“That [the fact me and Mbappe are staying] is how I feel today. That is what I can say to you today. I can’t say anything else. That is how I feel right now.
“This is football, and we never know what might happen. But I have to answer the question based on how I feel today. And this is what I have done.”
Though PSG have been confirmed champions of the French Ligue 1, they still have four league games to play starting from the away game against Strasburg on Friday.
PSG recorded 4 defeats, 6 draws, and 24 wins in 34 French Ligue 1 games so far this season. They have garnered 78 points, 13 points above second-placed Marseille.
So far this season, Kylian Mbappe has been PSG’s best player. In the 2021-2022 season, Mbappe has scored 33 goals and provided 22 assists in 42 games in all competitions. In the 76 league goals PSG scored this season, Mbappe directly contributed a whopping 37 of the goals.
