On Tuesday, discussions took place with Newcastle interested in taking up the option of signing the 26-year-old player after seeing how well he performed during his loan stint.

While Newcastle has explored their possibilities for the left-back, Fulham has also expressed an interest in the player.

After a rough first half of the season, the Magpies saw a turnaround in their play after the January transfer window closed.

The leader of the team, Eddie Howe, started to mold his team to his preferences and recruited several new members.

Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood, Dan Burn, and Kieran Trippier all signed long-term contracts with the club. In addition to that, Howe made the loan acquisition of Aston Villa’s left-back Targett.

As a result of all of those moves, Newcastle was able to pull away from the teams that were in danger of relegation and eventually finished in 11th place.

Targett only missed one league game at Newcastle, and that game was against Aston Villa because he was ineligible to play against his original club.

Every other time that the Magpies played in the league, the left-back went the full 90 minutes without taking a break. The significance of his addition, along with that of the other signings, was readily apparent.

After the acquisition of Lucas Digne in January, it is anticipated that Targett will no longer be a part of Aston Villa’s long-term ambitions. On the other hand, Newcastle have been considering their other possibilities at left defender.

Dwight Gayle, a striker for Newcastle who is 32 years old, is currently in negotiations to join Middlesbrough of the Championship.
