Mats Hummels did not spare the hints as he took a swipe on the Premier League after clubs from the English topflight stumble in UEFA Cup competitions.

All the top three clubs on the Premier League table this season were knocked out in the Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Arsenal fell 3-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich after losing the Champions League quarterfinal second leg by a lone goal to the Bavarians.

Manchester City were eliminated on penalties by Real Madrid after settling for a 4-4 aggregate draw.

On Thursday, the Premier League’s only two representatives in the European second tier were also knocked out in the quarterfinals. Liverpool lost 3-1 on aggregate to Atalanta while West Ham fell 3-1 to Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Following the deadlock for the English teams on the European scene, Germany international Mats Hummel aimed a subtle dig at the Premier League.

The Borussia Dortmund star wrote on X, “Good harvesting this week my fellow farmers.”

Hummels’ comment is obviously a swipe at the Premier League, who have consistently undermined the German Bundesliga, calling it a farmers’ league.

In football parlance, ‘farmers’ league’ is a term used to describe a football league that is less competitive compared to other leagues.

The German Bundesliga has been frequently berated by Premier League fans for lacking the competitiveness, edge, enthusiasm, and excitement of the Premier League.

Hence, Hummels was throwing the same word on the Premier League, metaphorically brandishing it as less competitive as well after they had all their representatives knocked in the Champions and Europa League.
