Chelsea attacking midfielder, Mason Mount has revealed that he has been vaccinated against the dreaded coronavirus. He said he decided to be vaccinated due to the incident which led him to self-isolate during Euro 2020.

Recall that during the European Championship, Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell were forced to self-isolate because they came in contact with Scotland midfielder, Billy Gilmour who tested positive for the virus a day after the meeting.

Even though Mount and Chilwell did not test positive for the virus, they had to be isolated from the rest of the England national team players. Hence, they missed the team’s last group stage game against the Czech Republic and the knock-out game against Germany.

Fortunately for England, the country won the two games without Mason Mount and Chilwell. The 22-year-old Chelsea attacking midfielder joined up with the England team afterward and helped the team to get to the final of the tournament.

Ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier against Hungary which is scheduled to kick off later today, October 12, 2021, at 19:45, the press dragged Mason Mount into the debate over the coronavirus vaccine.

The media believe that just like many people in the world, some players in England squad are skeptical about accepting the vaccine.

Over the week, some of England’s players like Jesse Lingard, Fikayo Tomori, Kieran Trippier, and Ollie Watkins refused to reveal whether they have taken the coronavirus vaccine.

It is believed that the players decided not to reveal their status due to the stigma they might face on social media for doing so.

But Mason Mount decided to act like Tammy Abraham, his former teammate at Chelsea and Roma striker, by announcing that he has been “double vaccinated now”.

“Going through that experience, missing the game, a top, top game kind of did affect my decision”, the Chelsea attacking midfielder said.

“But I think for players and personally-wise it’s down to someone and it is down to their decision how they feel about it.

“I don’t think you can force anyone to get it but, for me, going through that experience did make me want to get it and get it quite quickly.”

Mason Mount has been nominated alongside 29 other players for the 2021 Ballon d’Or and the 22-year-old football star is not sure of winning it.

The England international has the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Jorginho, Ngolo Kante, Karim Benzema, and a host of others to contend with for the prestigious football award.

In his reaction, Mason Mount who gained promotion to Chelsea senior team on July 1, 2019, said being nominated alongside the aforementioned names was an outcome of years of hard work.

He said: “It was special. To see that and to be alongside those names is obviously a dream.

“For all the years you work hard, dedicate and see something like that, it shows everything pays off. It is just the start, it doesn’t stop now.

“I doubt [I’ll win the award], but you never know! The most important thing for me is that I keep trying to hit the levels that I have set before and go even further.”
