The manager of Chelsea football club, Thomas Tuchel has singled out Mason Mount for praises after the club defeated struggling Fulham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, May 1.
In the Premier League match which was a must-win for both Chelsea and Fulham, Chelsea’s summer signing Kai Havertz scored two goals to further cement the club on the 4th spot on the league table.
Kai Havertz scored the first goal in the 10th minute of the first half, thanks to a pass from Mason Mount. The German footballer made it two in the 49th minute, thanks to a pass from Timo Werner.
Mason Mount’s assist that led to Chelsea’s first goal against Fulham on Saturday, brought his total assists in the Premier League this season to 6. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has also scored 6 goals in 33 games this season.
Despite his impact in the game, coach Thomas Tuchel had to substitute him in the 76th minute for his English teammate Tammy Abraham.
After the 2-0 victory over Fulham, Chelsea’s coach Thomas Tuchel described Mason Mount as a full package. He also described the 22-year-old England international as a nice guy who learns something new every day at the club’s training center, Cobham.
Tuchel said: “He has the full package, mentally, in terms of talent and physically. And the most important part is his character, he has his feet on the ground and he’s a nice guy.
“He comes to Cobham every day to learn something new and have new experiences. He is the guy who can recover very fast, he’s a very physical player and is fully adapted to Premier League football.
“He has big self-confidence in a very, very positive way. It’s a pleasure to have him, be at his side and guide him and support him.
“It’s impressive, he’s not affected by all the praise. This is maybe the most important part. He seems to be a guy who likes the sport and feels an obligation to make the most out of it. And he wants it absolutely badly, so it’s a top mix.”
On why he substituted the fast-rising football star, the German tactician who will host Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, April 5, said he decided to substitute Mount to avoid taking unnecessary risk on his fitness level.
“I hope not”, Thomas Tuchel answered when he was asked whether Mason Mount was not injured during the game. “It was my decision, there was not any doctor or physio who told me to take him off.
“But I saw him landing hard and it was the moment when we wanted to take him off anyway. I saw him holding his back slightly, so we didn’t want to take any risks but I have no other information on that.”
Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham has increased their total points from 58 to 61 in 34 league games, 6 points above 5th placed West Ham United that still have a game in hand, and 7 points above 6th placed Liverpool that still have a game in hand.
For Chelsea to secure this position until the end of the season, they must not suffer any defeat in their remaining 4 Premier League games.
An important message from the boss.
