Mason Greenwood returned to football training in the city of Manchester on Sunday, July 7, 2024, for the first time in months after his loan spell with La Liga side Getafe ended.

Viral footage shared by The Mirror showed the 22-year-old joining his former Manchester United teammate Shola Shoretire on the training ground ahead of the new campaign.

While the move by Mason Greenwood is apparently a sublime endeavor to put himself through paces ahead of the new campaign, the conversation has shifted to his next career stop as Football Clubs get ready for the new campaign.

Manchester United are set to resume pre-season training on Monday, July 8, 2024. Some players who are not on international duties are expected to report to camp.

As the preparations gather momentum, Mason Greenwood’s future has yet to be settled. Futballnews understands Manchester United are open to a permanent transfer exit for the embattled winger this summer but there is no deal on ground yet.

As things stand, it is a complex phase in the United-Greenwood saga. The club had hoped to broker a deal for the exit of the youngster before preparations for the next campaign take centerstage. Now, it appears such a plan is not materializing.

This means Mason Greenwood could return to Manchester United training at least before he is sold. He has been included in the club’s 2024-25 player roster. So, he is still a legitimate Man United player. However, the projections are that United are likely to earn the wrath of disgruntled fans who led the protest for the player to be axed out of the club.

While analysts continue brainstorming on the difficult options on United’s table, Greenwood is focused on returning to action and wants to get up to speed with his career again. Sources close to the player have revealed he is growing frustrated by the club’s indecision over suitors who have come asking for his services.

From Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1, a host of clubs have laid siege on the gates to Old Trafford to sign Greenwood.

Valencia are leading the list and have reportedly tabled a £12 million initial offer. Serie A giants Lazio are reportedly ready for a player-plus-cash deal for the player. French Ligue 1 side, Olympique Marseille, have also joined the race.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are unyielding on their £40million asking price. While no offer is close to the set price, it is understood the club will not succumb to a cut-price deal for the player. This means Greenwood is likely to return to training with the first team and if no offer is bagged before the summer transfer window closes, United will trigger the extension clause on his contract and allow him to leave on another loan deal again – an option they are currently kicking against.

The back-and-forth in Mason’s career all began in 2022 when his girlfriend and now the mother of his child, Harriet Robson, leveled charges on him for assault and coercive behavior. He was arrested and charged before the charges were dropped and he regained his freedom.

However, United decided to loan him away to Getafe to restart his career. At Getafe, the prolific right-winger impressed with 14 goal contributions – his best tally in a single season. He was crowned Getafe Player of the Season despite just playing for the club for six months.

After successfully reviving his career, the youngster will be hoping to have his future settled soon to continue with his career.
