French giants, Olympique Marseille has responded to club manager, Andre Villas-Boas on his resignation, by suspending the Portuguese on a temporal basis amid pandemonium at the club.
Recall that the former Chelsea gaffer, in a surprising manner, intended to tender his resignation letter over some strict sporting policies of the club. Especially, with the club signing Olivier Ntcham behind his back on the deadline day of the winter transfer windows.
Villa-Boas signed with the Olympians as their manager on a two-year contract in 2019. replacing Rudi Garcia who was set to leave the club after the expiration of his three-year contract.
“I submitted my resignation saying that I did not agree with the sporting policy. I don’t want anything from OM. I don’t want money,” Villas-Boas said at a press conference.
Before he intended to resign from the club there were unhealthy occurrences at the club. Last Saturday, angry fans set the home training facility ablaze, due to the fact the club is facing some challenges in the French Ligue – they lost their last league five games.
The fans were also angry with the club president, Jacques-Henri Eyraud, telling him to leave office because he would not allow workers to support the club.
“When I arrived, I was struck by the fact that 99% of people working at the club were from Marseille. I think that this is a danger, a risk.” Eyraud said
But Villas-Boas has denied that he had the intention to resign not because of the fateful occurrence. But in between the coach’s intention to resign and the club suspending him temporarily, Maurizio Sarri was teased to come on board at the club but the Italian turned down the offer.
Meanwhile, Marseille is seated in the ninth position of the Ligue 1 table, playing about two games less than teams above them. They won only a game in their last nine outings. They are at the base of their UEFA Champions League group conceding 13 goals from the process.
