Marcus Rashford has broken his silence after being left of England’s provisional squad for the 2024 Euros.
We reported earlier England national team manager Gareth Southgate has named his provisional 33-man squad for training camp ahead of 2024 Euros.
The 33 names on the list are expected to turn up for Southgate’s training camp where he will have a chance to further assess the players before making his final selection for the tournament before UEFA deadline on June 7.
Rashford has been left out of the preliminary squad in what could be seen as a huge disappointment for the Man United forward.
It will be the first time, the prolific forward will miss a major tournament with the Three Lions since his big break. However, the 26-year-old seems to have accepted his fate and handled the situation with a great sense of maturity.
A few minutes after Southgate’s training camp squad hit the waves, Rashford took to his Instagram handle to wish Gareth Southgate and all the selected players the best as they prepare for the continental showpiece.
”Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the up and coming tournament,” he wrote on his Instagram story, sharing a snap of the squad.
Reacting to his decision to leave Rashford out of the squad, Gareth Southgate admitted it was a tough decision for him but added he could not help due to the player’s struggle for form.
According to him, the 12 forwards listed in the provisional squad have had a better season with their respective clubs than Rashford, hence his hard decision to leave out the forward.
”These are of course difficult calls,” The England manager said.
”We’re talking about players who are very good and who have been an important part of what we’ve done over a number of years.
”’With Marcus, I just feel that players in that area of the pitch have had better seasons, it’s as simple as that,” he added.
Rashford is one of the most capped young players in England national team, having won 60 caps to his belt. Out of his 60 caps, 57 of those have been under Gareth Southgate.
His omission from the squad was inevitable following what has been his most difficult season with Manchester United in the 2023/24 campaign.
He managed only 7 goals with 2 assists in 33 Premier League appearances for United and registered 2 assists in 4 Champions League appearances.
Rashy is not the only big-name player that has been left out of the squad. We reported earlier Jordan Henderson, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, and Raheem Sterling, and other big-name players have all been left out as well.
The 26-year-old still has a chance to work his back to the national team should he regain his form with United in the next campaign.
