Marcelo is no longer a Real Madrid player after his contract officially ended on 30 June 2022.

According to reports making the rounds, all seven football clubs in the MLS, which Marcelo was offered to, rejected him. So what could be the cause?

Surprisingly, among the teams in the Major League Soccer (MLS), which reportedly turned down an opportunity to sign him, is Inter Miami.

Many persons in the football world were shocked to learn that Inter Miami – a football club belonging to former Real Madrid player David Beckham would turn down Marcelo.

The other teams that turned down the Real Madrid icon include; LA Galaxy, Los Angeles FC, New York Red Bulls, and some others.

Football pundits are of the opinion that Marcelo’s wages were not the issue for the Major League Soccer clubs. Rather, the clubs are of the opinion that the former Real Madrid man has passed his prime and would be unable to provide competition in the teams.

Marcelo doesn’t want to play in Italy or Turkey

In the wake of this, Marcelo is considering joining another club in the Spanish capital, as he doesn’t want to play for a club in Italy or Turkey.

Major League Soccer clubs are trying to correct the impression that their league is some sort of retirement ground for aging players. This season, there have been conscious attempts by the MLS clubs to bid for players in their prime.

There have also been some marquee signings this season so far, and sports analysts believe that the league is gaining more credibility.

There have been unconfirmed reports that among the clubs interested in signing Marcelo are Getafe, Valladolid, and some others outside Spain. Football observers believe that the clear favourite for the 34-year-old will be Getafe.

If Marcelo chooses to play for Getafe next season, it would mean that he doesn’t need to move from his home in Madrid. Neither does he have to make any changes to his life and current activities in the Spanish capital. Many believe that this will be a great factor in the Brazilian’s decision-making process.
