Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen has been ruled out for eight months after he suffered a knee injury at the end of the first half of the match against Villarreal in the La Liga.

Ter Stegen collapsed after coming out to claim a Villarreal corner kick, and he was immediately replaced by Barcelona second choice Inaki Pena.

Ter Stegen was carried off the pitch with a stretcher. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick confirmed the extent of the injury, stating it is huge and serious.

Inclusively, Hansi Flick calmed; he doesn’t know the goalkeeper’s date of return until he undergoes further testing on his injured knee.

In the post-match press conference, Flick said, “It doesn’t look good for Marc. We have to wait to know the full diagnosis of the injury, but it’s true it does appear to be really serious.”
