    Manuel Ugarte has joined Ligue 1 Champions PSG from Sporting Lisbon for 60 million euros (£51.1m).

    Ugarte, 22, signed a five-year contract which will keep him at the Parc des Princes until June 2028.

    The Uruguay international was previously linked with Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool but chose to move to France.

    In an interview with Portuguese newspaper Record, Manuel Ugarte confirmed that he would be joining Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

    Ugarte after signing for PSG said: “I am sincerely very happy to be able to make this big step in my career, at such a huge club. I will give everything for PSG.”

    Ugarte becomes new PSG boss Luis Enrique’s third signing since he was appointed as successor to Christophe Galtier on 5 July.

    Manuel Ugarte is reportedly set to earn €3 million per year as a PSG player for the next five years.

    PSG also released a statement saying: “Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to welcome Manuel Ugarte to its professional squad from the 2023-2024 season.”

    “The Uruguayan midfielder, who will wear the number 4, is linked to the Parisian club until June 30, 2028.”

    Paris Saint-Germain also signed Marco Asensio and defender Milan Skriniar on free transfers after they departed Real Madrid and Inter Milan respectively.

    Manuel Ugarte Ribeiro is a Uruguayan footballer who was born on 11 April, 2001 and plays as a defensive midfielder for PSG and the Uruguay national team.

    Manuel Ugarte started from Fénix’s youth academy, after he was promoted to the first-team in 2016.

    He later joined Portuguese Primeira Liga side Famalicão in December 2016 before signing for fellow Primeira Liga side Sporting CP, winning the Taça da Liga in his first season.

    Ugarte is a former youth international for Uruguay, he represented his country at various youth levels.

    The midfielder also was part of the Uruguay team that finished in third place in the 2020 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament.

    How Good Is Ugarte?

    Manuel Ugarte can be called a standout all-action defensive midfielder who does a lot of work off the ball, averaging over 16 defensive actions per 90 minutes and winning 58% of the challenges he makes.

    Even though he is so young, it is hard to find any faults in his defensive game.

    Ugarte, 21, has shown great potential since joining Lisbon, impressing fans and critics alike with his technical skills, work rate, and versatility on the pitch.

    Manuel Ugarte is generally deployed as a holding midfielder and is highly aggressive and tenacious.

    He also has a great technical ability to thrive in all phases of the pitch.
