Manchester United are top of the list of Premier League clubs with the highest shirt sponsorship revenue for the 2024-25 season.
Shirts and kits Sponsorships in football remain one of the most sprawling money-minting areas for clubs. As business entities look at leveraging on the popularity of the sports to promote brand awareness, football clubs are cashing out big, especially those with a huge fan base.
As expected, the value of Football Club’s shirt sponsorship revenue is dependent on the marketability and appeal of the club to global football fans.
This explains United’s fortunes with a strong and large fan base compared to other Premier League clubs. Based on recent statistics, the Old Trafford club is leading the rungs of Premier League clubs with the highest shirt sponsorship revenue in the ongoing campaign.
The Red Devils boast an astonishing £170 million taken in from the kit deals in this season alone. Their deal with Adidas, who manufacture their kits, is worth £90 million itself.
That’s supplemented by Snap Dragon’s £60m offer as a new front-of-shirt sponsor. Another brand, DXC’s £20m deal to have its logo in front of the sleeves, takes Manchester United’s total to a commanding £170m.
Even local rivals Manchester City are lagging miles behind. City get a healthy £150 million, all courtesy of the kit deals. A further breakdown shows £70m of the earnings are from Puma, while £60m is from front-of-shirt sponsor Etihad, and £20m from OKX for the sleeve sponsorship.
The multiple-layer shirt sponsorship deals highlight the commercial appeal of these clubs to businesses and brands seeking to expand their frontiers to the burgeoning football fans’ community.
Liverpool rounds off top Premier League clubs with the highest shirt sponsorship revenue.
Merseyside outfit Liverpool rounds off the top three Premier League clubs with the highest shirt sponsorship revenue. The Reds rakes in £137m courtesy of the kit deal with Nike, Standard Chartered, and Expedia. The kit supplier is Nike. Standard Chartered is on the front of the shirts and Expedia on the sleeves.
Arsenal ranks fourth with £125 million from its deals with Nike, Emirates, and Visit Rwanda.
Notably, even the lowest of the top four amounts still clearly sees Arsenal as competitive when it comes to maximizing the commercial value of their kits.
The next on the chart are Tottenham on £110m and Newcastle with £72.5m. In fact, both clubs have significantly improved their commercial attraction. They are ahead of Chelsea on the ladder, who have dropped to seventh.
Why Chelsea are down the ladder of Premier League clubs with the highest shirt sponsorship revenue
Chelsea are another top Premier League club with a great fanbase. Rightly, they would have been expected to be among the top five on the chart.
The Blues are standing far back in the whole list, collecting in total just £68 million.
Chelsea have Nike paying £60 million as a kit supplier, and Fever chipped in £8 million for sleeve sponsorship. The fronts of Chelsea’s shirts are blank. Chelsea stood as the only Premier League team without a front-of-shirt deal after it parted ways with its previous front-of-shirt sponsor, Infinite Athlete, before this season kicked into full gear.
It cost the club tens of millions of pounds to part ways with Infinite Athlete, an amount that can be quite devastating to a club of their size. The lack of front-of-shirt sponsorship has contributed to the Blues’ slip to seventh on the ladder.
How do other clubs fare in the chart?
Further down the table, the slump in revenue can really be seen. Down in eighth place is Aston Villa at £39 million, following their new deal with Adidas. Everton and Leicester are both tied with £21.5 million, while West Ham take in £21 million.
Brighton, Crystal Palace, Wolves, and Fulham fill in the middle of the table with sponsorship deals between £15.75 million and £17 million.
Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth complete the bottom half, with £11 million and £10.5 million, respectively.
The three least earners are Southampton, Brentford, and Ipswich Town. Bringing up the rear, newly-promoted side, Ipswich, has a paltry £6 million, which leaves a question mark over what the actual worth of Ed Sheeran’s contribution in sponsoring the front of their shirts is.
Also, the club’s low standing is unavoidably due to its smaller fan base and little appeal to potential sponsors. Ed Sheeran has been the club’s main bearing in terms of sponsorship since 2021. He recently upgraded to a minority owner, but the financial terms of the new agreement have yet to be disclosed.
