Manchester United have suffered yet another injury setback after the club ruled out Mason Mount with injury until after September.
The Red Devils have confirmed that the England International is set to be on the sideline for at least until the forthcoming international break.
The former Chelsea player joined Manchester United early in the ongoing summer transfer window and has started each of the first two Premier League campaigns for the Old Trafford outfit under Erik ten Hag this season.
However, the club have announced that Mount will miss the upcoming matches against Nottingham Forest after picking up an injury against Tottenham and is also predicted to be out of the trip to Emirates Stadium when United lock horns against Arsenal.
The Red Devils confirmed that Mount will be out via the club’s official social media page. They wrote; “Mason Mount is set to miss Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest due to an injury picked up in last weekend’s encounter with Tottenham Hotspur”.
The club added; “The small complaint is expected to keep Mount out until the international break next month”.
The 20 times English Premier League champions have not revealed the specific disposition of Mason Mount’s injury.
The English player will not be available for games clearly comes as a setback for both Erik ten Hag and his team, with Fred already departed for Fenerbahce.
The 24-year-old was among Manchester United’s starting XI in both Premier League matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur, in which United secured a controversial 1-0 victory against Wolves and later suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham.
He formed a midfied partnership with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in those two games.
The three did not seem to be working together quite yet, and United’s dismal performances in their early matches of the 2023–24 season were mostly attributed to this imbalance in the middle of the park.
However, the former Chelsea midfielder has performed below expectations since the start of the new season in which he registered zero shots, zero successful dribbles, zero assists, and zero goals.
Following the injury Mount has sustained, the Three Lions international player took to his Twitter handle where he reflected on his frustration with the trauma.
He also promised to take every action in his power to return to the field as soon as feasible.
Mason Mount said; “It’s very frustrating picking up an injury in a moment like this, I’ll continue to support my teammates, and I will do everything I can to get back on the pitch as soon as possible. Thank you for all the messages of support”.
Ten Hag will now be compelled to think creatively to replace the void left by Mount for his team’s upcoming two games.
It is apparent that Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay could fill in for Mount and perform well until the former Chelsea player is available again.
With this latest loss, pressure on United to add another midfielder before the transfer market window closes will only grow.
Kobbie Mainoo is also presently sidelined due to an injury he suffered while on the team’s preseason tour of the United States.
Mason Mount, who missed several games for Chelsea last season, has suffered yet another setback. He was hindered by a pelvic problem in the second part of the previous season, necessitating surgery for the problem.
When the next international break takes place from September 4 to 12, Mount might be unavailable for England’s international games against Scotland and Ukraine.
Due to an injury, he missed the March and June international matches and hasn’t played for his nation since the World Cup at the end of 2022.
What’s next for Manchester United?
The Red Devils will lock horns against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League on Saturday, 25th of August, at Old Trafford as they’ll be looking forward to getting back to winning ways.
On the other hand, Manchester United will be hoping to welcome Mount back to the squad when they’re preparing for their first Champions League group match in September.
