Manchester United have lived up to their promise of helping Mason Greenwood restart his career after 18-month exile.
Greenwood’s Manchester United career was frozen following allegations of attempted rape and sexual assault.
He was arrested for prosecution following the allegations with Manchester United suspending him immediately after his arrest.
However, in a shock move by the Crown Prosecuting Service, all charges against Mason Greenwood were dropped. It was thought Manchester United will reintegrate Mason Greenwood back to the squad but that was not to be as the club insisted on internal investigations into the allegations before taking a decision on Greenwood.
Following months of investigations, Manchester United concluded Mason Greenwood was innocent of the charges but he will not restart his career at Old Trafford.
Manchester United decided to part ways with Greenwood but pledged to assist him resettle for a fresh start to his career away from Old Trafford.
On transfer deadline day, United offered Mason Greenwood to Lazio in Italy on a loan deal but the move collapsed.
Attention was turned to Getafe after the debacle with Lazio. The two parties were able to work out details of the deal and reached agreement for the move. Mason Greenwood joined Getafe on loan on deadline day with no buy option.
As part of Manchester United’s commitment to resettle Mason Greenwood for fresh career start, the club have reportedly bought Greenwood a luxuriously-furnished apartment in Getafe worth £8,000 every month.
The apartment, located close to Getafe training ground, boast of some of the best fitness and private training facilities to keep the youngster in shape.
He will also have access to translator services for easy communication with his teammates and his new associates.
Manchester United will also foot over 50% of his wages throughout his loan spell with the Laliga club.
Mason Greenwood wants Manchester United return
Greenwood is reportedly fixated on playing for Manchester United, his childhood club.
Sources close to the player have revealed the 21-year-old has not given up hopes of playing for Manchester United again.
Manchester United CEO, Richard Arnold, confirmed Mason Greenwood’s return was one of the options the club considered following investigations into the allegations. However, the club were forced to reverse the move to bring him back following protests by sections of Manchester United fans.
Greenwood’s loan move to Getafe has no buyout clause hence he will return to Manchester United in 2024 but it is still unclear whether the club will keep him or sell him after the loan spell.
Getafe manager Jose Bordalas defend Getafe move for Mason Greenwood
Before completing the loan move to Getafe, Mason Greenwood was linked to Roma in Serie A and Al Etiffaq in Saudi Pro League but the two clubs debunk the rumors saying they are not interested in signing Greenwood.
Manchester United reportedly wanted to bring him back but had to grapple with stigmatization and reputation issues hence the decision to loan him out.
Now, Getafe boss Jose Bordalas, has taken the bold step to address such negativities.
Bordalas defended Getafe’s move for Mason Greenwood insisting Getafe agreed to the move after relevant bodies investigated the incident and concluded Greenwood was innocent.
“Everyone knows what happened and the appropriate measures were taken.
“The relevant bodies did what had to be done and it ended with a non-conviction sentence.”
Greenwood will likely make his debut for Getafe when the club host Osasuna in Laliga on Sunday, 17 September 2023 after international break.
