Erik Ten Hag will remain as Manchester United manager following a thorough evaluation by the club’s board.

Ten Hag saw Manchester United through the 2023/24 season, and by their standards, it was not a very good season for the club, finishing 8th in the Premier League – their lowest in the Premier League era but amidst the poor results, they managed to win the FA cup title to salvage a disastrous season.

Manchester United Hierarchy In Talks with Erik Ten Hag Over Contract Extension

The Red Devils hierarchy are currently in talks with Erik Ten Hag over a possible contract extension, as his contract is set to enter its final season.

Following Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s departure, Ralf Rangnick took over as interim coach, and then Erik Ten Hag replaced him after the 2021/22 season

The review by the team’s administrators started just after the FA Cup Final, with ongoing speculations that irrespective of the outcome, Ten Hag will be sacked.

However, against all odds, Manchester United came, saw, and conquered at Wembley, putting Ten Hag on a high pedestal in the eyes of the Club’s Board.

Based on the fact that it took a long time (albeit two weeks) for United to reach a decision, there were speculations that it wasn’t going down well with the Dutchman.

It is now evident that Ten Hag is delighted about the decision made and he would like to continue with his job.

The club’s hierarchy felt that the two-week review period was sufficient to evaluate the first season under INEOS management.

Managers Linked With The Coaching Job At Manchester United

Interestingly, other managers have also been linked with the job of the Manchester United Head Coach.

Former Brighton Managers, Roberto de Zerbi and Graham Potter, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, and also the coach of the England national team, Gareth Southgate have all linked with the job.

Thomas Tuchel had discussions with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and the club had previously considered Mauricio Pochettino, former Chelsea head coach but all of these have gone off the radar.

Erik Ten Hag joined Manchester United from Ajax after a successful four-and-a-half-year spell during which he won three Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cups.

In his first season with the club, it was concluded that he overachieved as he finished third in the Premier League, as well as getting to the FA Cup final and winning the EFL Cup.

The EFL Cup, his first trophy, made him more loved by the fans and also gave him stronger grounds in the eyes of many.

Ten Hag’s Manchester United subsequently went on to the FA Cup final where they lost to Manchester City 2-1.

Finishing 3rd in the Premier League ensured they qualified for the UEFA Champions League, however, little did they know about what 2023/24 had in store for them as they finished bottom of their Champions League group.

Erik Ten Hag will now have to hope his fortunes change for good, as he now has the backing of the new management.

Manchester United won’t entirely miss out on European Football, they didn’t qualify for the Champions League but they qualified for the UEFA Europa League by winning the FA Cup.
