Manchester United Sign Manuel Ugarte From Paris Saint Germain
The Red Devils had already agreed personal terms with Ugarte in July 2024, with the Uruguayan midfielder expected to sign a five-year deal that would include the option for a further year.
Reports indicate that Manuel Ugarte will travel to Manchester United today, August 27, 2024, for medicals ahead of completing a move to the English giants.
The 23-year-old has been a priority target for Erik Ten Hag’s side this summer as they look to bolster their squad in the midfield department.
According to reports, Manchester United never sent bids for any other midfielder than Manuel Ugarte, as he has always been their go-to option in that unit.
Ugarte is considered a perfect fit for the Red Devils’ midfield, an area that has been pinpointed as one that needs reinforcement.
Carlos Henrique Casemiro is still a quality player, however, he appears to not have the pace needed to man the defensive midfield position at Manchester United.
Manuel Ugarte has been likened to a younger Casemiro due to his combative, physical, and tackling abilities.
In addition to being able to thwart attacking moves of opposition teams, Ugarte can also help initiate forward plays for the Old Trafford side.
Manuel Ugarte joined Paris Saint Germain from Sporting Lisbon on June 7, 2023, for a fee of €60 million.
The midfielder made 37 appearances for the Parisians last season, scoring no goal and providing 3 assists in all competitions.
Ugarte will become Manchester United’s 5th signing this summer, having secured the services of Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
The Red Devils have also reportedly finalized the signing of Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal and Crystal Palace’s Samuel Lusale alongside the acquisition of Malian teenage sensation Sekou Kone.
