Manchester United have been dealt with a Harry Maguire injury blow ahead of their Cup final clash against cross-city rivals Manchester City.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag confirmed Harry Maguire has been ruled of the match due to injury.

“Maguire is unavailable,” manager Erik ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference.

However, the Dutchman debunked fears the England defender could miss out of 2024 Euros after making Gareth Southgate’s 33-man provisional squad for the tournament.

“I don’t think so, no,” Ten Hag responds to a query on whether Maguire will miss the 2024 Euros.

“It’s just he didn’t make it, didn’t heal as we expected,” he added.

Harry Maguire sustained a muscle injury in training earlier this month and was expected to be out for three weeks.

As confirmed by Erik ten Hag, the former Leicester City defender is expected back for 2024 Euros but will miss the FA Cup final clash against Manchester City.

Harry Maguire’s injury underscores the crippling injury crisis that has plagued United throughout the just-concluded 2023/24 campaign.

As per Transfermarkt, United have recorded 61 injury cases with all outfield players sidelined at least once except Alejandro Garnacho.

United’s defense department has been the worst hit with the likes of Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Johnny Evans, exit-bound Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Tyrell Malacia all sidelined at least twice in the campaign.

Ten Hag will hope to weather the injury nightmare and turn a corner by edging out Man City in the final of the tournament. The Dutchman who has been under pressure following a dismal 2023/24 campaign will have a chance to boast his credibility and restore fans’ confidence if he takes down Premier League giants at Wembley.
