Manchester City were officially crowned 2022/23 Premier League champions after their matchday 37 clash against Chelsea.
Only Kyle Walker and Manuel Akanji made it to the starting lineup in the title-party game. Guardiola started most first team players on the bench but still eke out a win against Chelsea.
Julian Alvarez’s first-half strike was enough to secure victory for the Citizens.
Manchester City were already confirmed champions before the Chelsea clash. Taiwo Awoniyi’s gifted Manchester City their 9th Premier League title when he scored for Nottingham Forest in a narrow 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.
Chelsea mounted a guard of honor for the Citizens before kickoff.
After the game, City were officially crowned 2022/23 Premier League champions with captain IIkay Gundogan lifting the trophy amid fireworks of celebrations.
Before Manchester City were gifted the trophy, a swarm of City fans could be seen milling out in their numbers into the pitch to celebrate the club’s Premier League triumph forcing Manchester City players to flee into the tunnel before the crowning ceremony.
It was a celebration galore at the Etihad. Manchester City players took both personal and family shots with the trophy.
They were joined by their wives and girlfriends for the celebration.
Manchester City goalkeeper, Ederson, who was Pep Guardiola’s choice goalkeeper in their run up to the title win, was spotted with his family snapping with the trophy.
Ederson posed with his wife and three beautiful kids all donning Manchester City colours.
Algerian winger and former Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez could also be seen with his girlfriend and reality TV star, Taylor Ward.
Riyad Mahrez and Taylor Ward were all beaming with smiles as they step into the turf with their child, Mila, hoisted on Mahrez’s shoulders.
Riyad Mahrez made 28 Premier League appearances for City in the run up to the title, scoring five goals with 10 assists.
Kevin De Bruyne, who has been phenomenal for City through the campaign, was also on the turf with his family. De Bruyne, his wife, Michelle Lacroix, and his three kids snapped with the Premier League trophy.
De Bruyne made 31 Premier League appearances for Manchester this term, scoring 7 goals with 15 assists.
Erling Haaland’s rare-to-be-seen girlfriend, Isabel Haugseng, was also in the turf with the Manchester City goal machine. Haaland, who have hurled in 36 goals with 7 assists in his 34 Premier League appearances, took a shot with the Premier League trophy with Haugseng.
Aymeric Laporte could also been seen with his wag Sara Botello posing with the trophy and their son, Lucay.
Laporte played a peripheral role for City this season. He made only 11 Premier League appearances for the club this term with no goal or assist.
Portuguese star, Bernardo Silva and his wag Inez Tomas, also took a shot with the trophy.
The most iconic footage at Etihad was when Pep Guardiola was joined by his father, Valenti Guardiola, 84, and brother and football agent, Pere Guardiola, 46. They also snapped with the trophy.
After the ecstasy on the field, the players took their celebrations to the dressing room where they chorused to “We are Champions” song while popping champagne.
Guardiola has now won five Premier League titles with Manchester City since joining the club in 2015. He is the first Manchester City manager to win the trophy three consecutive seasons and could become the first Premier League manager to win it four times if he wins it next season.
