Manchester United striker, Mason Greenwood has been reminded of his responsibilities at Old Trafford.

Sources said the 19-year-old has been warned of his future behaviours after recently missing back-to-back victories over Newcastle and PSG.

Although he has been reported to have a minor injury described by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a “niggle”, forcing him to be out of action.

Greenwood was in the news for a wrong reason after he and Phil Foden brought in visitors into the team’s camp while on away international duty at Iceland. They were subsequently sent home for breaking the COVID-19 camp rule but both tested negative for the dreaded virus.

Greenwood scored 17 goals for United last season

Although both have tendered apologies for their behaviours, Foden has been playing for Manchester City as Greenwood remains on the sideline.

The latest concerning the Manchester United academy products were discussed by Danny Higginbotham and Danny Simpson on Sky Sports. The duo said he has been warned about his behaviour by the club, which includes even time-keeping problems.

The youngster, who is the club’s academy product established himself in the first team last season. He has been reminded of his responsibilities as a Manchester United player.

Greenwood sighted at Man United’s training despite injury claim

Greenwood was conspicuous by his absence from the squad at Newcastle, only to be pictured training with his team-mates on Monday.

This has led to questions about the claim of an injury made by the coach, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. So, not being part of the squad that traveled to France for the Champions League clash against PSG led to further questions.

In his pre-match news conference, Solskjaer laughed off rumours that the teenage striker and Brandon Williams were left out of the Newcastle game due to disciplinary reasons.

Clarifying the nature of the injury the United boss said it is a medical issue which he is not an expert in.

“Well, that’s between… I can’t declare medical stuff, can I? It’s just a niggle and, as young as he is, we don’t want to take any chances with him so hopefully the weekend he’ll be fine again.”

Greenwood had a fantastic 2019/20 season with United, scoring 17 goals. He eventually made his senior debut in the win over Iceland in September.

Many Manchester United players have been developed by the club’s academy and become legends. The legends know about the pressure of being the next big thing at Old Trafford.

This is a challenge Greenwood is facing after a breakthrough season where his goal-scoring exploits put him on a par with the likes of Wayne Rooney, George Best, and Brian Kidd.

United is known as a club with a high level of discipline and standards. Those are things that are highly important to Solskjaer, having witnessed such under Sir Alex Ferguson. So, this makes particular attention to be paid to Greenwood and other academy products.

What piles more pressure on the 19-year-old is last season’s feat. That has brought him under the spotlight.

It was gathered that the club is therefore working hard to ensure that he is able to cope with the extra challenges that go hand in hand with such rapid development.
