According to reports in Spain, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is willing to join Chelsea this summer, and the news is expected to be devastating for Man United.
Frenkie de Jong who’s 25 years old has been sought after by United throughout the summer transfer window, and Barca has reached an agreement to bring him to Old Trafford earlier in the summer.
However, the Netherlands international has made it very obvious that he does not want to play for the Red Devils. He considers Barcelona to be his ideal team and is reluctant to leave Camp Nou, especially because he still has four years left on his Catalan contract.
Amid that, Chelsea are trying to entice De Jong to the Premier League, and they are prepared to make an offer to outbid United for his services.
The player does not oppose joining Chelsea with the same zeal as he opposes United, which has gotten the Red Devils’ leaders concerned.
According to the Catalan newspaper Sport, De Jong would think about joining the Blues as they are looking to add midfielders to their roster this summer.
Thomas Tuchel has already added former Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling and ex-Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly to his team. A deal to bring Jules Kounde from Sevilla would strengthen the defense even more.
Still, Chelsea lacks a midfielder, especially now that N’Golo Kante and Jorginho both have contracts that expire in less than a year.

De Jong’s willingness to relocate to West London is thus a welcome development, though the source noted that he still prefers to continue with the Blaugrana
Chelsea have many advantages over United in the transfer chase for the former Ajax player. They can give De Jong the chance to participate in the Champions League next season, whereas United will play in the Europa League.
Also relocating to Stamford Bridge would allow the player to reside in London since he has no desire to live in the city of Manchester.
De Jong is also aware of the project Tuchel is working on, which now has the needed financial support and a defined identity thanks to Todd Boehly’s group taking over the club.
Chelsea will now have to decide on declaring their interest in the midfielder through an official bid. The fact that Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso of Chelsea have been closely connected to Barca may increase the Blues’ chances of landing their desired midfielder this summer.
