Luka Modric has delivered a strong message to Kylian Mbappe, expressing his desire for the PSG star to join him at Real Madrid.
Mbappe’s contract at PSG is about to expire, and the club has yet to reach an agreement with the striker on a contract extension.
Last year, Madrid failed to recruit the World Cup winner despite three hefty bids, but FUTBALLNEWS reports that the Liga giants are confident of obtaining his services on a free transfer this summer.
When speaking ahead of Madrid’s Champions League match against PSG on Wednesday night, Luka Modric openly said that he would appreciate the chance to play alongside Mbappe.
“We want to play with the best players in the world, and Kylian is one of them.” Of course, I’d like to play with him, but we’ll see what happens” The midfielder for the Blancos told reporters.
“It’s difficult to talk about other players because clubs get upset and can misinterpret it, but I don’t believe there is a player who doesn’t want him on their squad.”
Madrid is ‘hurt’ after losing the first leg
Mbappe scored a spectacular solo goal late in the first leg of PSG’s round of 16 clash with Real Madrid at Parc des Princes, giving the French champions a 1-0 lead to carry to Spain.
After the game, the 23-year-old claimed that he has not made up his mind about his future and dismissed the notion that the outcome against the Blancos would help him make up his mind.
After shaking off an injury, Mbappe is back in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the second leg, but Modric believes Madrid has enough quality in their ranks to turn the tie around and go to the quarter-finals.
“We’re certain that the best Real Madrid can compete with the best PSG,” the Croatian remarked of the first-leg loss.
“We saw the best PSG in the first leg, and hopefully the best Real Madrid tomorrow.”
