Modric Snubs Dinamo Zagreb Despite Efforts To Lure Him Away From Madrid

Recall in April 2024 that the midfielder’s boyhood club Dinamo Zagreb tried to lure him away from Madrid by buying a full-page advert in famous Spanish national newspaper, Marca.

The ad displayed a Dinamo Zagreb shirt with “Modric 10” on it and it came with the message in the bottom left: “Join us! It makes sense, all the possible sense in the world.”

It was also signed by the Croatian side’s president Velimir Zajec, with his signature seen in the bottom right of the ad under the club’s badge.

Dinamo Zagreb also posted a message on social media of someone sitting at a table with Marca in front of them before opening the paper on to the page of the advert.

Luka Modric began his professional football career at Dinamo Zagreb, making 80 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 21 assists across all competitions.

He exited the club to join Tottenham Hotspur on July 1, 2008, for a fee of €22.50 million.

His current deal with Real Madrid expires in the summer of 2024, having signed a one-year extension in 2023.

However, as aforementioned, he is expected to remain in Spain for the foreseeable future, as he has rejected offers from clubs interested in getting his signature.

Modric is one of the greatest midfielders in football history, and one of the greatest players in Real Madrid history.

The 38-year-old has won several trophies in his career, including; 5 UEFA Champions Leagues, 5 FIFA Club World Cup and 7 league titles (4 La Liga and 3 Croatian Football League).

Luka Modric formed a seismic trident with Casemiro and Toni Kroos, with the trio asserting their dominance in matches.

Casemiro is no longer part of the group, having left for Manchester United in the summer of 2022.

However, Kroos and Modric are still a key component of Real Madrid despite being at the twilight of their careers.

Anyway, Toni Kroos’ is expected to retire from football after the European Championships, and this will mean that Luka Modric will be the remaining player in the trident still at Real Madrid.
