Luka Modric has confirmed his decision on his Real Madrid future amidst speculations of his imminent exit from the club.
The 38-year-old is the last man standing in Real Madrid’s famous midfield trio which comprised of now Man United midfielder Casemiro and soon-to-retire midfield maestro Toni Kroos.
Modric’s Real Madrid contract was set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 LaLiga campaign with reports linking him to an exit to Saudi Arabia.
Now, addressing reports of his future with the Los Blancos, Modric confirmed he will retire at Real Madrid.
“The decision on my future is made but I can’t tell you yet,’ Modric said in an interview with Partidaz de Cope.
”I have always said I want to retire at Real Madrid, this is what I really want’.
”This would be a dream, this is my home, the club of my life. I want a farewell like Toni Kroos,’ he added.
Modric’s statement on his future has done little to resolve the mystery surrounding his next move, as per his footballing future.
With the 2023-24 LaLiga season wrapped off, the Croatian midfield sensation has yet to pen down a contract extension with Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, the Los Blancos will round up their 2023-24 football campaign on June 1, 2024, when they will take on Borussia Dortmund in 2023-24 Champions League final.
Modric is expected to be called to duty in the game. It could be his last game with the club but he has yet to bid farewell to the club as his companion Toni Kroos.
Meanwhile, a contract extension is yet to be brokered, still leaving his future in mystery.
The suggestions are if Modric wanted to end his spell with Real Madrid this season, he would have informed the club for his farewell after his last home LaLiga match.
As things stand, he may likely continue for another season but he is yet to broker an extension with the club.
The veteran midfielder will go down as a Madrid legend whenever he does decide to call it a day on his career, whether it be at the end of this season or next.
His career at the Spanish giants has seen Modric win five Champions League titles, four LaLiga titles, two Spanish cups, and a host of other major honours.
He also became the first player to break Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s stranglehold on the Ballon d’Or when he won the individual accolade in 2018.
