The manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has noted that his January signing, Luis Diaz is not too far away from performing miracles at the club.
Recall that on January 30, 2022, Liverpool paid FC Porto €45 million for the services of Luis Diaz. The Premier League club offered the 25-year-old Colombian left winger a five years deal which is expected to keep him at the club until June 30, 2027.
According to a Portuguese publication, SIC, the contract Luis Diaz signed with Liverpool in January 2022 earns him a whopping 67,000 euros per week, 3.5 million euros per year.
Before he left FC Porto where he has been since July 10, 2019, Diaz had played 125 games in all competitions in which he scored 41 goals and provided 19 assists.
Since he arrived at Liverpool this season, the Colombia international has played 12 games in which he scored two goals in all competitions. Diaz scored the goals in the Premier League.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Jurgen Klopp hoped that Luis Diaz would continue to do well at Liverpool.
“You don’t expect miracles immediately from this kind of players,” the German coach said. “But he is not far away from doing exactly that. Long may it continue.”
The fact that Luis Diaz has been able to adapt to Premier League football so steadily has thrilled coach Klopp, stressing that the 25-year-old forward deserves.
However, coach Klopp acknowledged that Liverpool’s recruitment process made it easier for a player like Diaz to be discovered and signed ahead of other competitors.
“Absolutely,” Klopp said when asked whether Diaz deserves the credit for his ability to adapt speedily at the club. But it also reveals something about Liverpool’s recruitment – both the player identification and the subsequent work that is done once the player is inside the building to ensure a seamless transition.
“There is a reason why you sign a player. The reason is the quality that he has. The reason is the way that he is playing the game.
“With Luis, where it has been really special is that when we saw him we knew that he would fit in immediately. That is difficult usually but because he did not have to change, that is why we have a confident boy here.
“He was in a really good moment with Porto, playing good for Colombia, and so he came here full of confidence. But what we tried to make sure is that he does not lose that because of the playbook as we tell him that he has to do this and he has to do that.
“We want him to be natural.”
Is Luis Diaz in a relationship?
Luis Diaz is in a relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Gera Ponce. Their relationship became public in 2016 when Diaz was still playing for a Colombian club, Barranquilla FC.
Gera Ponce joined Diaz in Porto, Portugal, when the Portuguese club signed him from a Colombian club, Junior FC, for €7.22 million on July 10, 2019.
When Liverpool signed the Colombian star in January 2022, Ponce attended the unveiling ceremony alongside their daughter.
Diaz and Ponce had their daughter, Roma Diaz, on November 5, 2021, towards the end of his stay at Porto earlier this season. They all live happily in Merseyside, England.
