Former Bayern Munich player and captain Lothar Matthaus has admitted that his former club “could score an incredible number of goals” with Manchester United hitman Cristiano Ronaldo in their team.
According to Lothar Matthaus, Ronaldo is the best replacement for Robert Lewandowski who’s heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer. He stated that securing the services of Cristiano Ronaldo will be a sexy move.
Futballnews has reported that Cristiano Ronaldo is set to leave Manchester United after he informed them about his plans this week. The Portugal international has just one year left in his contract with Manchester United after he came back to Old Trafford from Juventus in a £20 million ($24m) deal.
The Red Devils failed to secure a spot in next seasons UEFA Champions League competition following a disappointing 2021–22 season, and the 37-year-old striker is eager to continue playing in the Champions League to add even more hardware to his glistening trophy case before retiring. With Lewandowski publicly admitting that he is eager to take on a new challenge away from the Allianz Arena, Bayern are also in danger of losing their leading scorer.
Although Barcelona is reportedly making a strong bid for the Poland international, the German champions have insisted that he will stay throughout the remainder of his contract. But if Lewandowski leaves this summer, that means Bayern Munich will have to fill the space in front of their attack by signing a new striker.

Cristiano Ronaldo has since been linked with a move to other top clubs like Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona. However, a switch to Bayern Munich is more likely to happen even though the club has revealed that they don’t need him.
Lothar Matthaus has reacted to the recent rumors by saying: “If you at Bayern believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is still physically able to really help for a year or two and that you can invest the transfer fee generated for Lewandowski more or less one-to-one in the Portuguese megastar, I would think about it.”
However, if he joins Bayern Munich this summer then he would become the second player from the English Premier League to join the club after Sadio Mane. The Liverpool ex-player is expected to play alongside Kingsley Coman and Thomas Muller next season after completing a €41 million (£35 million/$43 million) transfer.
Matthaus envisions Ronaldo completing Bayern’s revamped attack. But the World Cup champion also cautioned that it might be necessary to sell Serge Gnabry to make Ronaldo’s move possible. Serge Gnabry has reportedly been linked with a switch to Man City as a replacement for Raheem Sterling who’s set to leave soon.
